Submission GuidelinesHello,
After used the new "Image Recognition Tool" a few days, I think you could improve it :
> by adding the dimensional constraints in front of each of the pre-trained models,
> by adding a true tool to divide the training data correctly (in order to have an equivalent number of images for each of the labels)
> at least, allow the tool to use black & white images (I wanted to test it on the MNIST, but the tool tells me that it necessarily needs RGB images) ?
Question : do you in the future allow the user to choose between CPU or GPU usage ?
In any case, thank you again for this new tool, it is certainly perfectible, but very simple to use, and I sincerely think that it will allow a greater number of people to understand the many use cases made possible thanks to image recognition.
Thank you again

When loading multiple sheets from and Excel with either the Input Data tool or the Dynamic Input Tool, I usually want a field to identify which Sheet the data came from. Currently I have to import the Full Path and then remove everything except the SheetName.
It would be great if there was an option to output she SheetName as a field.
To allow users to pull data from Power BI, eg. datasets and usage data, to allow it to be manipulated in Alteryx.
The idea behind encrypting or locking a workflow is good for users to maintain the workflow as designed.
However, when a user reaches a level of maturity equivalent to that of the builder or more, or even when changes are required - the current practice is to keep a locked and unlocked version of the workflow so that it allows for a change in the future.
It would be much simpler if we can have the power to lock and unlock workflows with a password. Users can then maintain and keep the passwords so that they can continue with the workflow.
Not everybody is on Server yet so this feature is very helpful for control before Server migration. Otherwise it’s just password protecting a folder containing the workflow package, then re-locking a new save file each time a change is made or when someone new takes over on prem.
The JOIN tool could use some love. Let's consider merging the JOIN and UNION functions into a single tool. Instead of strictly L, J, and R outputs, we could have an option to allow for all standard SQL joins:
Being able to JOIN on case-insensitive values is a big bonus (resisted urge to BOLD and change font size).
Being able to JOIN on date-range is often requested.
Being able to JOIN on numeric-range is often requested.
If we are combining tools, getting UNIQUE on L or R (or both) inputs would also save time. Most JOIN errors are because the incoming (R) data contains duplicates by KEY.
cheers,
Mark
Hi @NicoleJ
Please add a toggle for Dark Mode as Alteryx, after all these years of using it, is burning out my retinas.
The OS and most apps have a Dark Mode theme so flipping back to a bright white canvas is very jarring. I tried to adjust the canvas colors in a more muted way but never can get it to work satisfactorily and still be as easy to read as the retina burning default.
Hello all,
When using in-database, all you have in select or formula are the Alteryx field types (V_String, etc..).
However, since you're mostly writing in database, in the end, there is a conversion of Alteryx field types to real SQL field types (like varchar). But how is it done ? As of today, it's a total black box. Some documentation would be appreciated.
Best regards,
Simon
The current update notification in Alteryx Designer can feel overly persistent and disruptive — especially for enterprise users whose Designer must stay compatible with an Alteryx Server version. Users often see repeated prompts to upgrade Designer to the newest version, even when doing so would break compatibility with their organization’s Server, which can cause errors, confusion, or rework.
Proposed Solution:
Server Version Awareness:
When Designer is connected to Alteryx Server, automatically check the Server version and suppress any upgrade prompt that would lead to a version mismatch.
Flexible Dismissal:
Allow users to snooze or permanently dismiss the update notification for the current version cycle - or dismisal longer than 30 days which is the current max - rather than re-seeing the prompt each launch.
Impact:
Prevents accidental incompatibility between Designer and Server
Reduces user frustration with repetitive prompts
Why This Matters:
Many organizations cannot upgrade Designer independently of Server, and compatibility mismatches lead to support tickets and lost productivity. A smarter, quieter update experience respects these realities and makes version management more reliable for everyone.
A very useful and common function

Hello all,
I really appreciate the ability to test tools in the Laboratory category :
However, these nice tools should go out of laboratory and become supported after a few monhs/quarters. Right now, without Alteryx support, we cannot use it for production workflow.
Example given :
Visual Layout Tool introduced in 2017

Make columns Tool also introduced in 2017

Transpose In-DB in 10.6 introduced 2016

etc, etc...

Documenting your Alteryx workflow is important because it allows others to understand and modify it as needed. To document your workflow effectively, you should provide detailed information about your inputs, outputs, tools used, and any assumptions or limitations.
When it comes to documentation, annotations are often more practical than the comments tool. However, the comments tool in Alteryx offers a useful feature that allows you to customize the background, font, and border colors. These customizable colors can be beneficial when reviewing workflows, as they help draw attention to specific details or notes.
In the screenshot below, you can observe that the highlighted comment attracts more attention compared to the annotation on the left side, even though they contain the same comment.
It would be great if the color customization features available in the comments tool could also be added to the annotations of any tool.
We have discussed on several occasions and in different forums, about the importance of having or providing Alteryx with order of execution control, conditional executions, design patterns and even orchestration.
I presented this idea some time ago, but someone asked me if it was posted, and since it was not, I’m putting it here so you can give some feedback on it.
The basic concept behind this idea is to allow us (users) to have:
This approach involves some functionalities that are already within the product (like exploiting Filtering logic, loading & saving, caching, blocking among others), exposed within a Tool Container with enhanced attributes, like this example:
The approach is to extend Tool Container’s attributes.
This proposition uses actual functionalities we already have in Designer.
So, basically, the Tool Container gets ‘superpowers’, with the addition of some capabilities like: Accepting input data, saving the contents within the container (to create a design pattern, or very commonly used sequence of tools chained together), output data, run the contents of the tools included in the container, etc.), plus a configuration screen like:
This should end a brief introduction to the idea, but taking it a little further, it will allow even to have something like an Orchestration layout, where the users can drag and drop containers or patterns and orchestrate them in a solution, like we can do with the Visual Layout Tool or the Interactive Chart tool:
I'm looking forward to hear what you think.
Best
Hello all,
It's really frustrating to have an "alteryx field type" in In-Database Select. It doesn't even make sense since we're manipulating only data in SQL database where those types does not exist. What we should see is the SQL field type.
Best regards,
Simon
There is no tool that exists that outputs all records that are duplicates (those sharing the selected values with at least one other record) and also outputs the records that are not duplicates (those not sharing the selected values with at least one other record).
The Unique Tool is not sufficient. It only provides the first record of a unique duplicate group along with any non-duplicates and then provides a secondary output that only contains the additional records of a duplicate group. Sometimes you only care about the duplicates and want to quickly see what differs between the unique groups.
For example, if there are 4 records with the City of Austin and I am looking for duplicates on City I want to see all 4 records with Austin in the output so I can quickly compare additional fields to see what might differ, or if they are all indeed truly duplicates.
Currently it's not possible to "switch off" interface tools in the same was as we can with the other tools. This limits the functionality especially within chained apps. If we could switch these tools off it would be much easier for us to tailor the experience by allowing selections to be activated by logic, rather than simply the data therein.
Please Alteryx Gods. I beseech thee!

Hey all,
I don't know about you, but I have always had trouble hovering the mouse over the Results window pane trying to get the resize icon to appear. It seems like you need surgeon level precision to find the icon! 😷
I love Designer and want to see it be the best it can possibly be. I feel like increasing the clickable/hovering area for this resize would be amazingly helpful!
Just wanted to see if we could get some community momentum going in order to get some developer eyes on this issue. 🙂
Please help by bumping/upvoting this thread!

Connecting to Smartsheets using Alteryx Desktop (and by extension, Alteryx Server) is extremely cumbersome. If a user wants to read data from Smartsheet, they are required to get an API token (preferred) or use a username/password
Then do one of the following to read data from Smartsheets:
1. a. Install a ODBC driver
b. Configure a DSN connection for ODBC
c. Use the input data using a generic ODBC connection
or
2. Use python
To write data to Smartsheets, a user can use Python or upload the data using an API call - both very hard for end users to use especially if they're not Python developers.
Regardless, all of these are problematic. On the server I manage, I have over 15 ODBC connections to Smartsheets and it's getting very hard to upgrade the server hardware because of them. Creating a native connector for input/output of data to Smartsheets will eliminate a headache of managing ODBC connections, and make it simple for Alteryx Desktop users to read and write data.
Hello all,
Like many softwares in the market, Alteryx uses third-party components developed by other teams/providers/entities. This is a good thing since it means standard features for a very low price. However, these components are very regurarly upgraded (usually several times a year) while Alteryx doesn't upgrade it... this leads to lack of features, performance issues, bugs let uncorrected or worse, safety failures.
Among these third-party components :
- CURL (behind Download tool for API) : on Alteryx 7.15 (2006) while the current release is 8.0 (2023)
- Active Query Builder (behind Visual Query Builder) : several years behind
- R : on Alteryx 4.1.3 (march 2022) while the next is 4.3 (april 2023)
- Python : on Alteryx 3.8.5 (2020) whil the current is 3.10 (april 2023)
-etc, etc....
-
of course, you can't upgrade each time but once a year seems a minimum...
Best regards,
Simon
Adding a up and down arrow on each column would make it easier and quicker to sort columns then the drop down menu or sort tool
Dear Alteryx,
One day, when I pass from this life to the next I'll get to see and know everything! Loving data, one of my first forays into the infinite knowledge pool will be to quantify the time lost/mistakes made because excel defaults big numbers like customer identifiers to scientific notation. My second foray will be to discover the time lost/mistakes made due to
Unexpanded Mouse Wheel Drop Down Interaction
Riveting right? What is this? It's super simple, someone (not just Alteryx) had the brilliant idea that the mouse wheel should not just be used to scroll the page, but drop down menus as well. What happens when both the page and the drop down menu exist, sometimes disaster but more often annoyance. Case in point, configuring an input tool.
See the two scenarios below, my input is perfectly configured, I'll just flick my scroll wheel to see what row I decided to start loading from
Happy Path, cursor not over drop down = I'll scroll down for you ↓
Sad Path, cursor happened to hover the dropdown sometimes on the way down from a legit scroll = what you didn't want Microsoft Excel Legacy format?
And you better believe Alteryx LOVES having it's input file format value changed in rapid succession., hold please...
Scroll wheels should scroll, but not for drop down menus unless the dropdown has been expanded.
Oh and +1 for mouse horizontal scrolling support please.
When working on a complex, branching workflow I sometimes go down paths that do not give the correct result, but I want to keep them as they are helpful for determining the correct path. I do not want these branches to run as they slow down the workflow or may produce errors/warnings that muddy debugging the workflow. These paths can be several tools long and are not easily put in a container and disabled. Similar to the Cache and Run Workflow feature that prevents upstream tools from refreshing i am suggesting a Disable all Downstream Tools feature. In the workflow below the tools in the container could be all disabled by a right click on the first sample tool in the container.
