Currently, it is only possible to map first name, last name and email via SAML. Would it be possible to enable mapping of aliases? The idea is, that we cannot map first name and last name with the Full Name field because they are not unique. At the moment, we are pushing email into both Full Name and Email fields, because emails are unique for us. In addition to this, it would be convenient if the Alias(es) field could be mapped via SAML as well. In this way, not only emails but also real names would be automatically present in Connect.
Currently, there is no way users get notified that more metadata/reports have been loaded in Connect. Would it be possible to enable notifications for these newly loaded assets? The idea would be that if e.g. somebody is an owner of a project (or any folder), he/she would be notified when a new dashboard (or any other object) within that project/folder is loaded.
Would it be possible to implement an option to enable a banner with custom notification for users? This would be meant to inform users about scheduled maintenance windows, that they can experience slow performance (e.g. during metadata loading) or to inform them about any important information.
Each workflow state has a very useful option: «Persistent» flag.
I understand how it works, but I would like to setup the system somehow to allow users to see public state by default.
My approach is simple. A lot of users visit Alteryx Connect for searching and reading. And I want to show them ‘public’ (official, approved) state of objects by default, not draft versions.
If the user would like to edit an asset, he/she can exit from public mode explicitly.
When adding a link to another Alteryx object ("Link to page") or a custom field with a picker, only 7 results are returned and there is no way to get beyond this. For example, if the thing I want to link to doesn't have a unique enough name, or there are multiple items with a similar name, then I cannot "choose" the correct item to link to and I am stuck.
Via the normal Search you can go to Advanced Search to find the item you are linking to, but there is no further option for custom field picker or Link to page....
The only hack workaround I have found is to temporarily rename the item I want to link to to something unique that won't be found elsewhere in Alteryx, and then rename it back after creating the link. Not something I want to recommend to our end users of Connect! This seems to be a big limitation.
Big organizations have strong security policies and one of our potential customers would like to distinguish superadmin actions (login, change the config, change permissions) from other action. For example, they ask to change logging level (from INFO to WARN) when superadmin is logging in.
In the Alteryx Gallery we have the ability to place workflows in Districts or Collections. This structure should be maintained in Connect. Similar to how Data sources are managed, instead of Data Source Servers, you have an area to select and filter by the various collections and districts in which workflows are contained.
Our customers would like to see propagated data lineage. For example, if some columns in different tables are linked together, obviously, tables have dependencies as well. So it is a good option to have the possibility to view child objects' relationships. It allows analysing impact and data lineage between objects deeper.
Manage permissions based on entry type. E.g. I set up some folders structure and I’d like to allow to users only create glossary terms, not new folders. So if I set up CREATECHILD permissions, it allows to create subfolders as well.
Alteryx notifies thumbs up but does not notify the owner of a thumbs down.... We think this makes sense to have as consistent so that the owner can follow up on issues with the asset, and/or have it removed.
When we were demo'd Alteryx Connect, I am positive that the person demonstrating said that users would be notified of @ mentions. Turns out this is not the case (https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Connect-Discussions/Tagging-people-in-comments-is-broken-in...)
Given that the Connect brochure promotes the "familiar social interactions" I find this super puzzling that tagging people in does not do what pretty much any other social tool does - let the person know that they have been tagged into the conversation.
I like the concept of the Interactive charts tool but it seems overtly cumbersome to use when you are trying to perform simple changes to a line graph. The chart tool was much easier. I like the direction the interactive tool is going but I should not have to edit the tools xml to display point values on a line graph.
A lot of information is not captured when colleagues run numerous SQL codes on server. Oracle, SQL Server, Azure and others...
Would there be a clever way of capturing and archiving all this queries run?
It may be wise to collect these for several reasons;
So found out a similar feature is now available in SQL Server 2016 --> https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/relational-databases/performance/monitoring-performance-by-usin...
We are new to Alteryx and we could see that the Supported Data Sources from IBM are of below :
How about adding IBM Sterling to this?
We want Alteryx to support connection with IBM Sterling OMS which will help the Business requirements
Can anyone post some suggestions on this? How we can connect to Sterling?
If you remove the configuration of the SMTP server while you are in development, (the current solution to spamming users with notifications during the setup period of the data catalog) then put the SMTP server configuration back in when you are finished setup, all the changes that have happened in the interim will not be sent as a bulk send. This a risk when an email server is unavailable for a period of time that notifications for changes/comments/tasks will be missed.
Once the ability to switch notifications on and off is implemented, I think it would be worth reviewing how feasible this is.
The email notifications that are received are not easily marked or flagged/prefixed as coming from Alteryx. I expect that this may be on purpose so that data owners can't "hide" from changes/comments on their areas of expertise, but from a time management point of view, it would be good to be able to flag them in some way so that a rule can be run on them in the users inbox, and they can batch up their reviews/answers.
for the past 8 months I have been using alteryx and mostly working with the connect in db components , there are many issues which I am facing and i this this can be improved
1. there is no such flexibility of creating a table with the keys defined which is the most important pillar in database, also the options provided are limited , i.e. to create a new table , delete and append, drop table and recreate,
now, there are many times where in we need to update the tables based on the keys, which i find missing. Also how the option is defined is create a new table, next time if the job is run it states that the table is already created, for which we need to manually change the option in the next run.
2.which switching between in db and alteryx , if the records are more the alteryx lags completely and the job keeps running for hours , how can we achieve the flexibility of alteryx designer if there is such bottleneck.
3.the flexibility that is provided with alteryx designer should also be given to in db components.
4.the parameters defined in the workflow can not be accessed in the in db formula tools but can be used in the designer formula tools. this reduces the flexibility.
please look into the same
Currently, the Files Loader in Connect loads all files in a directory regardless of whether they are used in an asset (e.g Alteryx workflow, Tableau dashboard, etc). This becomes a problem when you have folders containing hundreds or even thousands of files that may not actually be linked in anyway to Alteryx or Tableau as those are all populated into Connect.
It would be beneficial if the Files loader was more selective about what files to load into the Connect UI by picking up file relationships discovered using the Alteryx and Tableau loaders for example.
We're working through an implementation of Connect - and it appears that every time Connect scans the Alteryx or Tableau environment, it does a full reload of all canvasses / workbooks.
However - we have several thousand tableau dashboards & alteryx canvasses - so this creates a significant delay on running the loaders, and we'd want to run these loaders every few hours so that Connect has up-to-date information (or at most 24 hours out of date). Running a full export and scan is causing this load to take a very long time to run.
Can we change the default behaviour for all the loaders to use a delta-load rather than doing a full scan - i.e. only pull out assets that have changed since the last load?
