Submission GuidelinesHello,
After used the new "Image Recognition Tool" a few days, I think you could improve it :
> by adding the dimensional constraints in front of each of the pre-trained models,
> by adding a true tool to divide the training data correctly (in order to have an equivalent number of images for each of the labels)
> at least, allow the tool to use black & white images (I wanted to test it on the MNIST, but the tool tells me that it necessarily needs RGB images) ?
Question : do you in the future allow the user to choose between CPU or GPU usage ?
In any case, thank you again for this new tool, it is certainly perfectible, but very simple to use, and I sincerely think that it will allow a greater number of people to understand the many use cases made possible thanks to image recognition.
Thank you again

Github support. push/pull your workflow code directly to/from a repo. I posit this is the single biggest feature misisng form Alteryx -and I'm be happy to blab on and on to the product team about how not having this is a huge miss.
Hi all,
Hope you are doing well! Recently I have come across a use case where I had to dynamically rename columns based on Field name ánd position. While I was able to come to a solution using a set of tools, it got me thinking: would it be possible to include the Fieldnumber function exactly like already has been done in the dynamic select tool (i.e. 'Select via a Formula - Column Position' example)?
For example, one would write: IF ([FieldNumber] = 1) OR ([FieldNumber] = 3) OR ([FieldNumber] = 7) THEN [_CurrentField_]+"_Code" ELSE [_CurrentField_] ENDIF
Writing to XLSB Files using Delete and Append does not behave properly.
Alteryx currently is having an issue with writing to an XLSB file using the Delete and append option with Take the file/table name From field.
Issue:
Workaround:
Create a Batch macro to simulate the Take the file/table name From field function without actually using it.
Example of Issue:
Record ID | Original File | ----> | Updated File |
1 | Old Data | ----> | |
2 | Old Data | ----> | |
3 | Old Data | ----> | |
… | Old Data | ----> | |
1200 | Old Data | ----> | |
1201 | ----> | New Data | |
1202 | ----> | New Data | |
1203 | ----> | New Data | |
… | ----> | New Data |
I received a "string variable switched type" error on the filter tool performing a basic filter on the value column of "is not empty" after a transpose tool. The value column is datatype of V_String 255. So even though the values are null, blank, number, text, it is all string as per the data type column flowing in. When switching from basic to custom with formula: IsEmpty([value]) same error. BUT, when using the Formula Tool to generate a new column for true/false there is no error. Also the Fitler Tool works as expected with IsNull on this dataset.
Please look into the isEmpty code in the Filter tool so that it behaves correctly.
Please note that pre-splitting the data with the isEmpty flag column using the formula tool, applying IsEmpty Basic Filter to the True and To the False both worked without incident.
What would be nice is if there is an error in the filter tool that it would output those to it's own stream. Something like - True (T), False (F), Error (E).
Alteryx is great for for forecasting but it would be useful if we could use it for back casting (predicting historically). Might have fewer use cases than forecasting but would still be useful.
Hey it would be great if we could use alteryx designer on macs (without needing to use VDIs or splitting the hard drive)
Hi Team,
I understand there is no .dmg i.e. direct macOS installation package is available to install directly on Mac instead we have to use other third party apps to install WindowsOS and then use it.
However I would suggest that if Alteryx can have a web version or something called Alteryx Public (similarly that Tableau has for their users) which users can use and explore the tools with limited to basics functions and to understand the UI and experience the tool itself by having hand-on it.
Please find the below Tableau Public snapshot for reference purpose.
I am looking forward as I am keen on exploring Alteryx as a beginner and become expert one day :)
Thanks,
Sachin
Hello all,
As of today, the error message when trying to activate a license doesn't give any useful information :
I want to know :
-do I manage to access to the Alteryx Licensing? (so maybe a security/proxy issue.. so I have to contact my IT)
edit : for that there is another message usually
-is the key correct but not more seats? (so I have to contact the Alteryx License manager) Or another issue?
Here, I perfectly know the license key is correct so the error message is really misleading.
-also displaying the machine id as it appears on the License portal would help.
-and anything that can be helpful to debug.
Best regards,
Simon
The chart tool is really nice to create quick graphics efficiently, especially when using a batch macro, but the biggest problem I have with it is the inability to replace the legend icon (the squiggle line) with just a square or circle to represent the color of the line. The squiggly line is confusing and I think the legend would look crisper with a solid square, or circle, or even a customized icon!
Thank You!!!!
I am using Alteryx as an ETL Tool and then QlikSense for data visualization.
Alteryx only gives QVX outputs which are the old version QlikView files. It works for QlikSense but it slows down the system. So, the QlikSense support suggested using QVD outputs.
I want to suggest supporting QVD files as QlikSense is being used more widely instead of QlikView, most users are migrating to QlikSense.
It would be more useful and efficient if Alteryx supports latest file format.
When a workflow runs on the server and the server tells me there was an error with Tool ID 103, I'd like to be able to open that workflow in my designer and search for that Tool ID 103. We have some really large workflows and it takes a long time to manually locate that tool.
It would be great if you could include a new Parse tool to process Business Glossary concepts formatted using the SKOS (W3C) standard in the next version of Alteryx.
SKOS is a widely used standard for the representation of concept and term relationships. It provides a consistent way to define and organize concepts (including versioning), which is essential for the interoperability of these data.
We believe that supporting SKOS in Alteryx would be a valuable addition to the product. It would allow us to:
We understand that implementing support for this standards requires some development effort (eventually done in stages, building from a minimal viable support to a full-blown support). However, we believe that the benefits to the Alteryx Community worldwide and Alteryx as a top-quality data preparation tool outweigh the cost.
I also expect the effort to be manageable (perhaps a macro will do as a start) when you see the standard RDF syntax being used, which is similar to JSON.
SKOS, which stands for Simple Knowledge Organization System, is a W3C Recommendation for representing controlled vocabularies in RDF. It provides a set of classes and properties for describing concepts, their relationships, and their labels. This allows KOS to be shared and exchanged more easily, and it also makes it possible to use KOS data in Semantic Web applications.
SKOS is designed to be flexible and extensible, so they can be used to describe a wide variety. They are both also designed to be interoperable, so they can be used together to create rich and interconnected descriptions of data and knowledge.
Here are some of the benefits of using SKOS:
Here are some examples of how SKOS and DCAT are being used:
As the Semantic Web continues to grow, SKOS is likely to become even more widely used.

This is a question which is somehow in between Designer and Gallery ideas.
When saving a workflow to the Gallery, the user can select the Assets (elements which are also copied to the Gallery). The point in time during the save process is a bit questionable from my perspective.
Often, I develop workflows locally until they reach a state in which I want to move them to the Gallery so that they can be included in Schedules or be made available to other users. I would like to be able to select which macros or datafiles are copied to the Gallery as well much earlier in the development process. From my perspective, it would be great if the user could set the Assets settings in the "Workflow Dependencies" window as well. I propose 3 possible values for each element (macro or data file):
It could look like this:
Hi, as a person with a mapping background, I love that Alteryx added zoom & pan abilities. The hold ctrl + mouse wheel zoom is great! Also, the hold space to pan is great as well. My only issue is this function should still work if the process is running, can you implement?
Hey Alteryx!
Here's one. I don't care for the tabs at the top showing each workflow. They are not in order by open date and it's hard to tell whether tab all the way on the right is the final workflow or not... They are hard to X out (especially the last one on the right that seems to have a semi hidden X). Depending on your monitor layout/resolution, you can only see like 10 visible workflows at a time in the gui. If you want to see more, you have to go into the workflow dropdown carrot which AFAIK also doesn't seem to be in any particular order esp when you open up several flows having same name. On a side note - what happened Alteryx? They USED to be in order by open date going across at the top AND in the workflow dropdown... That was useful.
So let get rid of these tabs. It's so windows95.
Instead create an interactive workflow history table (window) similar to what exists in TOAD, sql assist and other database tools (see image below). It's a table in the view but each row would reflect a workflow (formerly a tab). Top row is most recent workflow and moving down the table shows history of workflows.
You could can hover over a row to see details pop up for that workflow OR you could click each row (double click to run?) and workflow becomes visible in active canvas and overview and results window update accordingly. Maybe we could even have more than one active window per session? (sort vert/horz).
Additional benefits/functionality:
1. Slightly more screen real estate which we know you are always looking for and asked about 🙂
2. This could also be an autosave feature. When Alteryx crashes - and it does - when you reopen designer all your history will be there - no loss of productivity! Also high on your list.
3. Have an additional search function where we can search for tool names, comments, annotation, workflow/app/macro names, odbc connections, specific formulas or key words and then we see which history rows match our search criteria (rather than searching using notepad++ 'find in Files' feature in a directory)
4. It's not that much dev time since workflow history is already available in some buried log so why not show some of this metadata to the user in the gui?
Thanks,
Simon
When I open I'd workflow, I'd like the option click on "something" to see content previous created for the workflow. The content I'd use most frequently is: How was the INPUT data obtained? ALL of the Alteryx workflows I will be creating with my current employer will require some level of pre-build of the data sources. I would like to document the pre-build requirements (could be pages of text, so "comments" aren't optimal) and be able to ask for them as needed.
Optimally, this feature would accept .docx, .pdf and other standard formats. Another option would be to support a URL that would link me to the content. For my purposes, this would be even more advantageous as all of our knowledge content is on-line.
One of things I like to do is select a bunch of tools and to see the collective performance of particular part of a workflow. It would be super cool if these stats were aggregated.
I could imagine then you could run alternative solutions side by side and then just select the tools involved to compare.
Currently, Control Containers only report in case they are activated:
Info: Control Container (3): Control Container Activated.
...
Info: Control Container (3): Control Container Completed.
It would be very helpful to also get information on disabled Control Containers:
Info: Control Container (3): Control Container Deactivated.
Currently, Cache and Run Workflow cannot be used if there's a second branch of data which goes around the tool which you want to cache. This slows down intermediate runs especially in complex workflows with a lot of inter-dependencies.
For example:
If you want to cache at the formula "Do something", Alteryx will not allow this because a single temporary cache file at this tool will not be sufficient:
My suggestion is that Alteryx allows multiple cache files for one single cache event. In this case:
Proposed process:
This way, I could use Cache and Run Workflow much more often which would save me a lot of time.
