Submission GuidelinesHello,
After used the new "Image Recognition Tool" a few days, I think you could improve it :
> by adding the dimensional constraints in front of each of the pre-trained models,
> by adding a true tool to divide the training data correctly (in order to have an equivalent number of images for each of the labels)
> at least, allow the tool to use black & white images (I wanted to test it on the MNIST, but the tool tells me that it necessarily needs RGB images) ?
Question : do you in the future allow the user to choose between CPU or GPU usage ?
In any case, thank you again for this new tool, it is certainly perfectible, but very simple to use, and I sincerely think that it will allow a greater number of people to understand the many use cases made possible thanks to image recognition.
Thank you again

Thank you again.

When you do a search for a tool, don't zoom to a blank area of the canvas (because that's where the tool would have been with an enabled container). So when a container is disabled, zoom to the actual container instead containing the tool you're looking for or temporarily enable the container so we can see the tool?
It would make it a lot easier to create and manage a work stream if you added the standard ability to maximize and minimize the workflow canvas and configuration and results windows.
Hi!
It would be cool if the Overlap tool also worked with report layouts, instead of just the map image. For example, once I've pieced my different report tables into one layout, it would be cool if I could just add my company logo using image tool, add a Overlay tool, and add the logo to the top corner of my finalized report. I realized there are other ways of doing it, this would seem the most straight forward though. Just an idea.
Constantly using rand() function but also need;
Idea: can we please add normdist() and triang(min,mode,max) functions...
Best
Edit: for normal dist. attached a discretized example...
This is not a terribly important thing, but in the formula tool, the nitty gritty details of the Expression almost never fit into the annotation space. It would be nice if the annotation by default just contained the names of the variables being derived. So, e.g. if I'm deriving "CalcVar1", "CalcVar2", "CalcVar3" and so forth, the default annotation would just be:
This gives a much cleaner (by default) canvas. The same concept applies to the MultiRow and MultiField Formula tools, perhaps others. Just a thought and obviously not very important. Thanks.
It would be useful to have a function or a tool to convert a number into a currency like excel. Where it would add the $ before and you could choose to have commas and a period for cents.
ex:
Input: 15978423.89
output: $15,978,423.89
of course, i'm sure there would be a need for other currency values besides the '$'.
415978423.89
Model evaluation (including feature importance) is only available in assisted modelling within the machine learning tools.
It would be great if there was a tool to do this when using the expert mode so that you could see some standard performance metrics for your model(s) and view the feature importance.
I want to check out which things downstream are receiving data from the true and false branches of this filter.
I could step through them one by one.
It would be much easier if I could simply select the tool and see directly which tools are connected to which output by colour, or line style.
Problem:
Dynamic Input tool depends on a template file to co-relate the input data before processing it. Mismatch in the schema throws an error, causing a delay in troubleshooting.
Solution:
It would be great if the users got an enhancement in this Tool, wherein they could Input Text or Edit Text without any template file. (Similar to a Text Editor in Macro Input Tool)
So I just realized that if I click F2 I am brought to the annotation window in the configuration window.
It would be great if I can click F3 to bring me back to the Configuration window! Often times I switch back between configuring and annotation a tool multiple times.
‘]Thanks,
J
On Right Clicking to "Comment" we should be able to convert it to "Tool Container" or "Tool Container" to "Comment". Also, it should map all the common configurations or similar. The mapping can be as such:
This example is from Comment to Tool Container,
Text --> Caption upto length 200 or so,..
Shape --> NA
Font --> NA
Text Color --> Text Color
Background Color --> Fill Color and Border Color
Text Alignment --> NA
Background Image --> NA
Transparency and Margin to Default
When attempting to save from Designer to Gallery the last step of the save is the validation step. The validation step, as I understand it, checks to make sure there's a valid license on Gallery. This counts as one of the processing "threads". If your organization is constrained by the throughput on Gallery, this can cause delays.
Our business only has the 2-thread service level for Alteryx Gallery. Consequently, if someone is running long, drawn out workflows on Gallery, this can create delays in saving the file from Designer to Gallery. It can also cause delays if there's a long "line" of workflows waiting to run. I presume that the save attempt is put in line along with the other jobs on Gallery that have to run. If this is the case, it could take a long time to complete the validation--tens of minutes or longer.
That window being open keeps the user from being able to use Designer at all. Very inefficient. There should be a requirement that the user has both valid licenses on Designer and on Gallery before they can run anything on Gallery. However, the validation of both of those is already accomplished by virtue of the fact that Designer checks for a license whenever the program loads. Also, if Gallery checks for the license anytime the workflow runs, then the second half of this check is already accomplished and, therefore, renders the check when saving to Gallery unnecessary. Please correct me if i'm wrong on this.
Change #1) Please the validation of Gallery license when saving from Designer to Gallery.
Change #2) Please adjust Designer such that you can continue to edit workflows on the same session while other files are being saved to Gallery.
Change #3) If we can't get #1 or #2, please change the queueing process to put attempts to save to Gallery in the front of the line because they should take <1 second to validate the license while other workflows could take many minutes.
HI! Love Alteryx. I have a parameterized macro output tool that has 16 parameters linked to as many fields from my batch file. The number of parameters is high enough that I have a scroll bar on the on the Config window.
Just out of habit I use the scroll wheel to scroll to the bottom, but by doing so completely blow out the config of the fields-to-parameters mapping because you can use the scroll wheel to also change the fields that are linked to the parameter. Then I have to go through all the parameters to set them back to the way they were before, which is tedious. I would like the macro tool to only change the field-to-parameter mapping by clicking, not by scrolling the wheel. That will keep from a bunch of setting and resetting of the parameters.
Thanks, Kurt
The RegEx tool has a drop down list so that user does not need to go KnowledgeBase; the specifier list should be added to the DateTime tool so user has a quick reference.
Users would benefit from this concept if done elsewhere as well
Disabled Containers throw errors if it contains any interface tools. It should not throw any error as the user is intentionally disabling the container.
Change the sample tool to have an allow all records option. This will allow you to include the sample tool in a production workflow and will be a constant tool to allow you to debug the workflow if necessary. This will prevent you having to delete and re-add the sample tool everytime you need to use it. Could also have a workflow option of 'set samples to all records' which you could click on when publishing to Gallery.
Hi,
I was told this feature is working as intended/designed, so I decided to post an idea to see if there was interest in the feature I'm looking for.
In debugging a workflow that another Alteryx user at my company was developing, we realized that an in-db connection was inadvertently pointing to the wrong environment. Because of how in-db tools output messages, there wasn’t anything visual pointing to this as an issue without manually inspecting the connection in “Manage In-DB Connections”. Since I’ve encountered some challenges with In-DB connections before, I suggested using the Dynamic Output In-DB tool, which I’ve used before for the “Input Connection String” option.
What I had never done before, and didn’t realize until I tested this, was use this with a connection that leverages an embedded SQL Server account username/password. When using this type of connection, an error is thrown that says: “ Dynamic Output In-DB (1) To use this tool select an appropriate data source and select the "Allow Decryption of Password" Password Encryption option in Manage In-DB Connections.”. However, the tool still works and appropriately pulls the connection as it exists.
For security reasons, we don’t want decrypted passwords floating around in this information, and we can’t enable “allow decryption of password” in our server environment.
So, my request would be to either add logging to In-Database tools to pass the connection string information (similar to regular input tools), or to add a method for outputting a connection string without a decrypted password that doesn't cause an error in Alteryx.
Screenshots below for reference.
Assume users using AD login/ password to access gallery.
And they are using individual AD account to login database with different access right.
Now, if we want to use individual account in the gallery data connection.
We need to get the user password and create many data connections in gallery
If input data tool can pass the gallery login/password when user try to use gallery data connection to connect the database.
We only need to setup one data connection but have individual access control.
For example, user A and B have different role in a oracle database.
Even they use the same gallery data connection, they will access different table/view.
Hi, i am from ETL back ground and coming from my knowledge i would like to suggest or ask a feature which will helpful in alteryx solution.
"Error Line" : many ETL tools provide an "On Error" line which performs certain actions like "altering user by sending an email", "ignoring and going to next step" etc. It will be great if Alteryx can provide the same feature where we can have an error line (red line) for each tool.
Hope this is not a repeated idea. thank you for all the support and providing a wonderful tool.
Thanks,
Harika K
