How about giving an auto-layout button to help easily layout the canvas even if the user has not neatly created the workflow?

In order of importance...

  1. Any sort of auto arrange
  2. Provide an option/setting to arrange vertically or horizontally 
  3. Arrange entire workflow or just selected elements

Good news! If you select multiple tools and right click on your selection, you can either align vertically or align horizontally. Hopefully this will help you building a beautifully organized canvas.
