Add "start data import on line x" option to text input

We have several .txt input files (same structure) that need to be combined into one file.  But all the files have summary information on the first 6 rows.  Alteryx help me created a macro to skip the first x rows but it is involved - but it works.  Having a "start data import on line x" would greatly simplify the process.

Absolutely, positively agree! And/or the ability to specify the header row. We have lots of reports similar to yours where summary information is in the first few lines and the headers and data are below that.

I, too, have a process developed with the assistance of Alteryx support. But it's cumbersome, and I think unnecessary. Alteryx is an extremely valuable tool, and I believe it the capacity of the developers to implement this feature.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback!

Since this is such a popular request and there's not a straightforward workaround, we're looking at this for a future release.

In the meantime, Ned has workaround steps here: http://community.alteryx.com/t5/Data-Sources/Import-CSV-that-doesn-t-start-on-the-first-row/m-p/152/....

Best,

Alex

I am delighted to report that by importing my weird .prn files as built-in type .csv, specifying that the first row contains field names, and seeting "Start Data Import on Line" to the line where my field names start, it WORKS! I'm back to 1-tool import for these weirdo files, and I appreciate it!

Now I'm going to build an app so "Start Data Import on Line" can be designated by the type of report I'm importing.

You've made me happy!
