The option to "Disable all Tools that Write Output" doesn't currently affect the Publish to Tableau Server output tool.

  • Enhancement

Yes.  I'll admit it.  I have set up email events and forgot to enter my address into the 'to' field.  The upshot is that an error was occurring in my workflow, the tool went to email me, and then double borked because I hadn't filled in a recipient.

Lots of tools error out without appropriate configuration applied, it shouldn't be too difficult to get this working on the events panel also.

Thank you for attending my TED talk on improvements to the Events pane.

  • Enhancement

If you open a workflow in Designer from the Gallery, make some changes, and then attempt to save it back to Gallery (i.e., Ctrl-S), you receive the Save Workflow dialog (as per attached).  However, if you then realize that you want to make an additional change before saving the workflow and click 'Cancel', the workflow closes without saving.  The expected behavior would be for the Save Workflow dialog to close, but not the entire workbook.  This is terrible functionality and should be fixed because it results in lost work.  Thank you

  • Enhancement

When developing workflows, it would be great if there was a feature to be able to disable multiple containers at once, rather than having to click on each one individually, for example through selecting all of the required containers and right clicking "disable selected containers".

In the meantime, a workaround is to copy the portion of the workflow being developed onto a new canvas.

  • Enhancement

We can Cache and Run Workflow for individual input tools now. Why not let there be a default option to just do it automatically? Or a Run & Cache feature next to Run?

Our team was very excited with the deployment of Alteryx One Enterprise Edition, but had to scratch our head on why DateTimeNow and Data Cleansing is available to Full Users but not Basic Users. What had us scratching our heads further, is Designer Cloud for Basic Users have DateTimeNow and Data Cleansing.

Hopefully the community and Alteryx can agree these are basic tools for everyone!

When working within the Table Tool, there are many options to help users format the width of their columns (i.e. Automatic, Fixed, or Percentage).

It would be nice to see an option added to disable word-wrapping.  Meaning, expand to encompass the header or data within the field so that each row is of uniform height regardless of the option:

Fixed:  The rest of the data would just be masked like in excel:

jrlindem_0-1753200155163.png

Percentage:  Same as fixed (above), but relative to the variable width...

jrlindem_1-1753200354732.png

Automatic:  Resizing to the required width, regardless.

  • It would also be nice to have options under automatic, akin to constraints
    • Automatic, but with a maximum width of...
    • Automatic, but with a minimum width of....
  • But regardless without word-wrapping

Why this matters:  When producing automation, especially for finalized outputs such as reports and tables; having maximum control over the output format is vital to ensuring downstream users don't have to continue to manipulate the output to suit their needs.  Maybe this isn't best practice, but when has customer demands ever taken a backseat to best practices!  😉

Idea: “Create THEN Append” Output Mode for Files and Databases

When outputting data in Alteryx—whether to an Excel file or a database table—the standard practice is:

First run: Set the output tool to “Create New Sheet” or “Create New Table.”

Subsequent runs: Manually change the setting to “Append to Existing.”

This works fine, but it’s very easy to forget to switch from "Create" to "Append" after the first run—especially in iterative development or when building workflows for others.

Suggested Enhancement:
Add a new option to the Output Data tool called:
“Create THEN Append”

Behavior:

On the first run, it creates the file/sheet or table.

On future runs, it automatically switches to append mode without needing manual intervention.

Why This Matters:
Prevents data loss from accidentally overwriting files/tables.

Improves automation and reusability.

Makes workflows more reliable when shared with others.

Mirrors functionality found in many ETL tools that allow dynamic "upsert-like" behavior.

Applies To:
Excel outputs (new sheet creation vs. append)

Database outputs (new table vs. append to existing)

CSV or flat file outputs where structure remains consistent

The current update notification in Alteryx Designer can feel overly persistent and disruptive — especially for enterprise users whose Designer must stay compatible with an Alteryx Server version. Users often see repeated prompts to upgrade Designer to the newest version, even when doing so would break compatibility with their organization’s Server, which can cause errors, confusion, or rework.

Proposed Solution:

Server Version Awareness:
When Designer is connected to Alteryx Server, automatically check the Server version and suppress any upgrade prompt that would lead to a version mismatch.

Flexible Dismissal:
Allow users to snooze or permanently dismiss the update notification for the current version cycle - or dismisal longer than 30 days which is the current max - rather than re-seeing the prompt each launch.

Impact:

Prevents accidental incompatibility between Designer and Server

Reduces user frustration with repetitive prompts

Why This Matters:

Many organizations cannot upgrade Designer independently of Server, and compatibility mismatches lead to support tickets and lost productivity. A smarter, quieter update experience respects these realities and makes version management more reliable for everyone.

Hello,

Could there be a way to explore the details of the results window by double-clicking on a value of the Browser profile?

Basically if the profile of a field in the Browser tells me that there are x records meeting that value, could they be selected by double-clicking on that value in the profile? A bit like when you explore the underpinning rows in a pivot table in Excel; if you want to see which records meet the criteria, you double-click on the value.

Genevieve_0-1749731805987.png

For example clicking twice either on the label or the count and the specific records would show.

When using certain tools, particularly market place tools like the SharePoint input/ output etc. it would be helpful to have a quick way to find out which version is being used in a workflow. Something along the lines of an option when you right click the tool, that displays the current version would be ideal.

This would be helpful in several cases but primarily when handing over workflows. There are cases when I have multiple versions of the same tool installed so that I don't have any issues inheriting workflows. This does however, make things confusing when handing workflows back. Tool Version Labelling would solve this problem.

So many tools especially Spatial Tools require a browse tool to be useful. Why not automatically add a browse tool when you add a spatial tool it could even be an option you could select. "Yes Auto Add browse" or not. Even during spatial trainings the instructions keep saying add spatial tool now add a browse tool and hit run. we can always toggle of the browse tools or delete them once we are finished developing. i know there are keyboard shortcuts and i use those but i think this would be a very simple addition.

Work on allowing workflows to run successfully as the same way as the Designer.

1.  Allow use of DCM connections in Workflow.

2.  Allow use of AMP engine in connections.

3.  Expose the full execution log in the Scheduler Output Window.

4.  Refresh the screen when a Schedule is running frequently showing the same detail as in the Execution Log.

5.  Allow a retry options for Scheduler.  Allow for number of retries when an Inteval between retries similar to SQL Server Job Agent or other schedulers.

I noticed the Workflow appears to validate the SQL when you click on the three dots next to the SQL statement in the Workflow Design.  My suggestion is to not run the validation until after the workflow is saved.

Hello,

As of today if you want to connect to Snowflake or MongoDB, you have to overwrite the default LUA Files, and that requires admin rights. I don't see the point of not including the good LUA files directly in the Alteryx packaging.

Best regards,

Simon

(1) The green banner saying that the workflow has finished running should stay until dismissed

(2) The indicator on the tabs showing which workflows had run should be colour coded (still running / completed without errors / completed with errors)

Thanks!

Hi,

I appreciate this could be a repeat of this topic but I'm not able to find it easily if it is.

I want to locate a column in my results window with a simple search functionality. I'd like to search for a column and then it'll present back to me potential columns that I could then select to move me to in the results window. It's painful with a lot of columns to keep scrolling to find the one you're after:

All the best,

BS

Whenever I start something in Alteryx Designer which takes some time (e.g. opening a workflow), and I want to do something in another application in the meantime (e.g., Explorer), Alteryx Designer repeatedly catches the Windows focus back and brings Alteryx Designer to the front, interrupting my work in the other application. And Alteryx does this really multiple time during an action (often multi times per second), not even only when finished, causing me to  have to press Alt-Tab multiple times to get the other window in the front again).

First, this is annoying: If I purposely select a different tool to be in the front I want to work in that tool and not be disturbed by a different tool that catches the focus back.

Second: This cannot be good for performance. Sending the "I want the focus" signals to Windows also takes time.

Suggestion:

Switch off all requests for getting the focus in entire Alteryx Designer. Instead, the Alteryx entry in the task bar might blink once or twice in green when the background action is completed.

If there are people who like this catching focus thing, then please introduce a setting so that it's possible to switch it off.

Vanilla Alteryx Chained Apps can only progress linearly, which means developers could not let users skip few applications ( or ) reach the last app in the chain ( or ) let the user select which specific app to trigger based on the requirement.

This can be bypassed by using a render tool with output as PCXML and HTML link of the Application you can trying to divert to, which does not affect the existing workflow in any way.

By using the below set of tools on any workflow/chained app you can either branch the flow of apps ( or ) you can skip a few apps in the chain.

  1. A excel or csv file which has the links of the apps -  the reason for keeping the hyperlinks in an external file is so that we can update the link if the server link changes/updates - refer Image 1
  2. A filter tool to specify which application to move to ( can be changed using a radio button/drop down to app 2/3/4/5 etc.)
  3. A text tool ( This is where the magic is ) - configure it to pick the server link from the incoming data from the filter tool as hyperlink and generate a output preview, as shown below - refer Image 2
  4. Use a render tool as output and write to any PCXML file ex: "File.pcxml" - refer Image 3

POC in action

  • Let assume our 3rd application is located in www.alteryx.com - if the user selects 3rd app in the radio button

  • Which would generate an Output Preview like below

Now If clicked on App 1, it would divert me to www.Alteryx.com

When opening the File Open dialog in Designer for loading a file from the Gallery, the default location inside the Gallery is set to "All Locations".

2024-05-07 08_28_10-Alteryx Designer x64 - New Workflow1.png

In most of the cases, a developer does not want to work on a workflow produced by a random other person having stored a workflow in the Gallery but on his own workflows. Thus, the default should be "My Private Studio".

Please apply the change to open the file open dialog with "My Private Studio" selected.
