Submission GuidelinesHello,
After used the new "Image Recognition Tool" a few days, I think you could improve it :
> by adding the dimensional constraints in front of each of the pre-trained models,
> by adding a true tool to divide the training data correctly (in order to have an equivalent number of images for each of the labels)
> at least, allow the tool to use black & white images (I wanted to test it on the MNIST, but the tool tells me that it necessarily needs RGB images) ?
Question : do you in the future allow the user to choose between CPU or GPU usage ?
In any case, thank you again for this new tool, it is certainly perfectible, but very simple to use, and I sincerely think that it will allow a greater number of people to understand the many use cases made possible thanks to image recognition.
Thank you again

Thank you again.

As reported in this post, I would suggest to only add new browse tools to outputs that do not have a browse tool attached already when using the "Add All Browse" feature.
Thank you!
Alteryx Admin Designer
Version: 2019.2.10.64688
Use case: Improved accessibility of Designer functionality via Keyboard and UI Menus
Hello Alteryx Team. I am very new to the Alteryx world. As I continue to learn and go through training and tutorials, one thought occurred to me. Using Alteryx requires a great deal of mouse dexterity - especially as workflows grow in complexity. This could be extra-challenging or frustrating for users with limited mobility.
As a huge fan of keyboard shortcuts, I found the Find Tool (CTRL+F) to be very handy when locating and selecting tools without the mouse. And the View Possible Connections feature enables the ability to link anchors without a mouse. Excellent! However, this handy feature seems only accessible by right-clicking a tool with the mouse. I'm unable to find an entry for this feature in any of Designer's menus, nor does it appear when using the Menu key on the keyboard (which brings up the Context Menu, aka Right-Click).
Perhaps this has been addressed in other versions of Designer. Or it might be a UI oversight. But in terms of accessibility, I feel it would be very useful.
Please let me know your thoughts or show me how to find it outside of right-clicking.
Many thanks,
James
During the Inspire APAC conference, I dragged and dropped a tool over another tool with the intention for it to replace the tool that was on the canvas. I didnt realise that it had not replaced the tool. I kept getting errors and did not know why. The error was because the original tool was still hiding behind my new tool.
Can we add functionality where we can replace a tool on the canvas with another tool by either:
1. dragging a tool from the tool palette over another tool and it replaces that tool with the tool from the palette (the tool being replaced will turn grey whilst you hover to indicate that you are about to replace the tool.
2. Right-click an existing tool and similar to insert after context menu, a replace tool context menu appears to select the tool that will replace the existing tool.
Also, if you can include in user options, an enable/disable checkbox for this function as I am not sure whether everybody may want this but this is a productivity hack when you change your mind later in the type of tool you want connected. Drag and Replace is very intuitive action which is used in other design software platforms. The only reason I can think of where you would drag and drop a tool directly over another tool is to replace it. Say you have the join tool on the canvas and you really want a union. Or you want to replace the predictive model being run without having to delete and then drag and drop the right tool. These are 2 examples among others where you reduce the number of actions taken to replace the tool currently on the canvas.
Happy to elaborate with more examples if the above does not make sense.
For the split to rows function on text to columns, can we have an option in the configuration to warn/error on too many records being generated just like the append fields tool but replace the words appends with splits?
With the version 2019.4 an option to open all autosaved workflows has been created. I liked it. It would be really helpful if I can open multiple workflows from gallery.
thanks
I want to create Descriptions for my fields in addition to those Alteryx auto creates, Text to Columns tool for example. I want to load these descriptions automatically into Tableau Hyper files so when I use the Tableau describe field feature, I will see them there. It also sets up the potential to create a data dictionary in the Tableau workbook based on these descriptions. Please give the option to load field descriptions into Tableau hyper files. Thank you.
I keep Connection Progress on "Show" by default. I find that the row count tooltips are crucial for spotting issues during development. Sometimes, the counts are huge and I have to mentally insert commas. Please give the option to add commas/decimals (based on US/EU standards) into the Connection Progress tooltips. Thank you.
Working across a large organisation inevitably leads to people using different drive letters when mapping drives/folders. This makes sharing workflows and macros with other teams more difficult and the first thing I do when creating a new workflow is change the dependencies to All UNC.
This suggestion is to offer the option to default all workflows to UNC via the user settings. Acknowledging that some users will prefer listing files by drive letter and other UNC, adding the option could make life a little bit easier for everyone.
the SQL Editing screen has recently been changed (thank you @JPoz and team!) - and now has syntax indenting and keyword coloring.
Could I ask that you make a minor change in the indenting, where the on part is indented underneath the Join?
Select
Field1,
Field2,
field3
from
Table1
inner join table2
On Table1.key = table2.key
and table1.keyb = table2.keyb
inner join table3
on table3.key = table1.key
and table3.date = table1.date
As a Left-hander I use my Mouse in my Left hand and use my Right hand for keyboard short cuts.
In many windows products that means I can use the CTRL-INSERT, SHIFT+INSERT, SHIFT+DEL for copy, paste, and cut.
In Meta-info windows in Alteryx I can do this, but in the workflow windows I can not. I'd like the functionality added.
I'd consider myself as a power user in most of the tools I use. No matter what program it is, I try to learn most of the useful shortcuts and code them into my mouse or keypad.
It's probably pretty uncommon that someone uses a mouse with 12 extra keys or a keypad, but I think many people would be happy to have the option to define shortcuts for everything. I don't really ask for shortcuts for everything by default, but a menu like Microsoft Word has it, that would be great.
For reference:
Microsoft Word has a menu were nearly every possible action is listed and you are able to define/assign shortcuts (one or more) for every action available.
(Sorry it's German. Path: File > Options > Customize Ribbon > Customize)
The following idea might not be as valuable as some of @SeanAdams posts, but it would save this user precious fractions of time. When I leave the canvas with my mouse (point A) to go up to the pallet I select and drag the tool down to the canvas. Sometimes I do right-click and go through the menus to add the next tool, but generally I go through that labor only when I'm inserting in-stream the tool. So here is my idea:
Double-Click your NEXT tool and it "Alteryx-ly" appears on your canvas in proximity to the hi-lighted (last) tool. Better yet, connect it! Now I can move from the pallet to the configuration panel directly without having to move my mouse down to the canvas and then over to the configuration panel.
Hopefully, my friend @Hollingsworth will find this time-saving idea worthy of a star. Speed demons like @NicoleJohnson and @BenMoss might not need this turbo boost, but at my age it is worth the ask.
Cheers,
Mark
Hi Alteryx Designer Dev Team,
There are times where you want to create a variation of a particular pipeline and the data transformations in the beginning of the pipeline are similar but need slightly different configurations. To save time, can we have a right-click context option for each tool to be able to copy/paste or duplicate tool with existing configuration. This saves time by only having to change a few options in the duplicated tool. This is common for tools like, input, output, joins, groupings and reporting tools. An example where this functionality is handy in reporting: you may have a particular way that you always do your charts and instead of configuring the chart options from scratch each time, you copy paste the chart tool with current configuration and then you only have to make minor changes such as the data connections.
Thank you
my company utilizes a lot of power pivot, but I am not seeing this as an available data source. Could this be implemented so that we could seamlessly incorporate our existing power pivot tools into ALteryx workflows?
My idea is to have the AlteryxEngineCMD.exe to run a workflow as part of the standard Alteryx license.
Use case - be able to run Alteryx from the command line without the need to buy the entire Scheduler package (at $6,500/seat).
I understand why certain features are add on, but the ability to run AlteryxEngineCMD.exe (I feel) should be part of the standard license which is already $5K+. For those who only need to be able to run a command line execution of a workflow $6.5K is a lot of money!
The new Paste Before/After feature is awesome, as is the Cut & Connect Around.

What would be even better is to allow the combination of the two. E.G. It is not currently possible to copy or cut multiple tools and paste before/after, as this functionality only works for a single tool that's copied.
Thanks,
Joe
I see many posts where users want to view numeric or string data as monetary values. I think that it would be friendly to have a masking option (like excel) where you could choose a format or customize one for display. The next step is to apply the formatting to the workflow so that folks who want to export the data can do so.
cheers,

The reporting tools do not currently support HTML structured or unstructured lists https://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_ul.asp
All vertical combination creates tables which group the lines together. Even if you manually create this - you get an error saying that ul (or ol or il) are not supported in composer
This creates a challenge in 2 ways:
a) When creating lists in reporting outputs - you lose the functionality of structured lists (numbering with letters; numbers etc)
b) additionally - selecting the text in tables behaves differently than selecting data that is created in lists.
Please could you add the ability to create lists in addition to tables in the reporting tools by supporting the ol; ul; and il tags?
NOTE: this could initially be done just by supporting the tags; and then later this could be a summarize option on the summarize tool; and a bullet option in the text tool.
Summarize using tables
desired: summarise using lists
List rendered with the list tags
It would be extremely useful to quickly find which of my many workflows feed other workflows or reports.
A quick and easy way to do this would be to export the dependencies of a list of workflows in a spreadsheet format. That way users could create their own mapping by linking outputs of one workflow, to inputs of another.
Looking at the simple example below, the Customers workflow would feed the Market workflow.
Workflow | Dependency | Type |
Customers | SQL Table 1 | Input |
Customers | SQL Table 2 | Input |
Customers | Excel File 1 | Input |
Customers | Excel File 2 | Input |
Customers | Excel File 3 | Output |
Market | Excel File 3 | Input |
Market | SQL Table 3 | Output |
It would be CRAZY AWESOME if we could get a report like this for all scheduled workflows in the scheduler.
