When creating the monthly percentage, why are the parenthesis required?

You're right they are not necessary. Alteryx respects the transitivity and priority of operators.

 

Below is an example, with I added +1 at the end.

1/ We get the same result, so brackets are no necessary

2/ Priority of operators is respected (if not, the 1st result would be 20.2 (i.e 0.2*101)
