This is not a rant, but a general observation of the tool and I wanted to see if others feel the same or if this is just a "me" issue.
I find it very interesting that basic stuff like adding empty rows with colspan is so hard, have the ability to add the chart but without render capability ... or while using render, a much easier process to change a worksheet name vs grouping, copying a worksheet from one Excel data set to another ... even ability to create dynamic excel, adding stuff to worksheet, and once done writing to a file.
I honestly feel that whoever designed this system, has never used Excel before :)
Before you go and say, there is a way, there could be "a way" to do this, but should not be this complicated ... is all I'm saying. Even though this sounds like a rant, it's not intended. I like the tool, it's quick and useful, but it's not "easy to use" and I find myself spending hours trying to figure out simple things.
Hey @kkvakic ,
I don`t disagree with you, there are lots of things that could be way easier and reporting is definitely one of those. Or something simple as the SQL coalesce function to fill null values.
Of course, every tool has pros and cons but you are focusing only on the second part. Alteryx and Excel have an overlap but they are not the same.
The ease of use comes with experience, as with everything in life, and some things are easy in Excel because you learned those functions and/or understand completely how Excel works. I, for one, have no idea what colspan is.
It took some time for me to get 100% used to Alteryx and stop using excel completely but now I use Alteryx even for simple and dumb things. I`m a huge Alteryx advocate, love the tool and have been working with presales and Alteryx for the past 9 years, so I guess I'm biased. And I can say that you are not alone; lots of people think like you and I heard the same feedback from companies I was trying to sell the tool for, but I would say it is 85% positive and 15% negative, 10% being a negative feedback in regards to the cost. 😅
Keep pushing and learning and you will agree with me someday, but if you don`t, that`s alright. We can always agree to disagree and be successful with the tools we like.😁
