Update columns in an existing Excel file

I workflow where I need to update single columns in a large spreasheet with formulas in most columns. I will need to reference the column using the column header (1st row).

How do I achieve this with Alteryx?

Is it possible to make this a 2 stage process? I.e. 1) Read the column headers from the original Excel and save them to a temporary file. At this stage do whatever processing is necessary to identify the ranges that will need to be updated. 2) Main process to write back to the columns / ranges identified earlier using the option in the Output Tool to take the full file spec from a field.

So, updating the range in location works but I am having an error when I am running the workflow again. Error: Encountered existing data beyong the specified range.
