As you can see the comments and work notes column is what I am referring to. While inputting this document, I am only getting a partial output of this column. From the box marked in red, you can get an idea about how much information is there in this cell. How do I input this cell in Alteryx without loosing all the data contained in the cell.

Please be informed that, no data's will be missed when you are reading the input from the Excel sheet.

It will read the complete data.

While you are seeing the output in the Result tab. We might see only partial information leading to assumption that it is not read fully.

Please use the browse tool to see the full result.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I am aware that the results tab only show partial data. The issue is even after outputting this file to xlsx file, it is showing me the same partial data. Is there some setting limiting to the data length or data cleansing step that I am missing?

@Nithinpanicker When you input the .csv file what delimiter are you using to parse the file? Can you share your input tool configuration?

Please share the mocked data of the data present in Comments column and until what data it is reading partially.

It might be due to the input delimiter's you have used while input.

The default delimiter to read .csv files will be ,

So the comments column might contain , which is causing the issue.

Please check.

I am using default settings. Please refer to the screenshot below. The csv file is in a zip format. I am using dynamic input tool to find the zip file with today's date. Sharing you the config of the dynamic input tool's template.

What should I set the field length to?

If you're importing a CSV, there's a limit on field length. You can increase it though

@Nithinpanicker What length is your text? Set it as high as you need. I don't know if there's an upper limit, I've used 50000 recently to make sure I was getting everything.

I believe the error is related to the delimiter as @ShankerV suggested as I can see the data after a "," being excluded. How can I change this setting to include the ",". Since my info contains emails and communications where users may use the comma in their sentences I dont want the information coming after to be excluded

You are supposed to modify the delimiter here as per your input shared.

But point to be noted, changing this will read the file in messy way.

For example, if your data is like this.

A,B,C,D,nobleshanker@gmail.com,shanker@gmail.com

Each , is read as different columns.

Please do the modification in the input file as below

A,B,C,D,nobleshanker@gmail.com;shanker@gmail.com

So the comments column will read as single column.

Logic is the identifier used should be unique, which should not be used in other columns.

Then only delimiter will work correctly.

pipe symbol |

or # symbol.

Tried what you suggested but its combined all the other columns into one now.

For better context:

"Comments and work notes" is a column and the data under the column contains a history of emails and chats. So if there is a comma in those cells data gets excluded.

Yes as I said it will mess up the data.

@Nithinpanicker when you use \0 as a delimiter it will combine each line into filed then you need to parse using a text-column tool or regex. Would you be able to upload a sample input file?

Here you go. This is just a stripped down version of the actual file. But when you input this file into alteryx you can see that the whole data from the "comments and work notes" column is not being read.

I see that the columns are back in order. However the data represented underneath is not. All the data from the other columns follow a similar structure. But here you can see parts of the comments and work notes column appearing in other columns as well. Is there a way to fix that?
