Cross Tab tool not producing results because of large dataset

I'm trying to use cross tab but am getting no results because of the following message. 

"More than 1000 fields are being generated by the CrossTab" I have a large data set with more than 25K distinct groups. I can divide this into separate dataset because I'm worried things will be out of order in the final result and I physically go through and check all 25K rows.

Can you say more about what you're trying to accomplish or provide an example? What output are you trying to produce? I think the Excel column limit is ~16,000, and I'd imagine most databases wouldn't like 25,000 columns as well.
