Background:
The Multi-Field Text To Columns tool does exactly what it says on the tin, allowing users to apply the functionality of a regular Text To Columns tool to multiple columns simultaneously. This gets rid of the need to pivot your data, use N number of Text To Columns tools or split your data into N branches before rejoining them when breaking your fields out into new rows.
Purpose:
The tool has been built to mimic the original and so, with the exception of the 'Output root name' argument (for obvious reasons), all functionality has been maintained, including:
- Select column(s) to split
- Nominate delimiters
- Split to columns
- Number of columns
- Extra characters
- Split to rows
- Advanced options
- Ignore delimiters in quotes
- Ignore delimiters in single quotes
- Ignore delimiters in parentheses
- Ignore delimiters in brackets
- Skip empty columns
Bonus: On the back of a great community suggestion (found here and here), users can also elect not to output the original fields when splitting to columns. Simply tick the 'Drop original field(s)?' box.
There is an example workflow attached with some simple demonstrations but the tool should be ready to plug-and-play into your own workflows right away!
As usual, any feedback, suggestions or requests for more assets are always welcome!
