Minimum Version Required: Alteryx Designer 2023.1.1.123
Instructions:
1. Download the official Runner Tool (this analytic app was built based on the 2022-01-11 version of the standalone Runner macro). (Please see latest update)
2. Download this workflow package named Runner Installation, which includes the Alteryx Runner Standalone Macro Installation.yxwz analytic app and a placeholder file named placeholder.csv.
3. Double click on the downloaded Runner Installation.yxzp file.
4. Alteryx Designer will be automatically opened if not already open and the Package Import dialogue window will open, asking if you want to import the Alteryx Package. Click Yes to continue.
5. The next window named Import Workflow Package will be opened. In this window, you can change the Destination Directory of the package import if you would like to (the package will be imported to the folder the it is located in if you do not change the Destination Directory, using the package name as the folder name). Click Import to continue.
6. You will see a message in the Workflow Import Progress window that reads "Import of Runner Installation.yxzp had 5 errors. Do you want to load the workflow and run Workflow Dependencies?". Click Yes to continue.
7. When the Workflow Dependencies window opens, click OK and ignore any errors that may appear.
8. Move the official Runner Tool downloaded in the first step (which is expected to have the name CReW_Runner.yxzp) into the Runner Installation folder.
9. Run the analytic app Alteryx Runner Standalone Macro Installation.yxwz and follow the instructions.
This analytic app installs the official standalone Alteryx (CReW) Runner macro by a different name into Alteryx Designer ProgramData directory and aims to create a future-proof installation of the Runner macro for when UTF-8 support may be added to the macro executable AlteryxRunner.exe, while also adjusting the settings for reading in the log file generated by the executable AlteryxRunner.exe properly.
You can use this app if you would like to install the officially published macro separately in a standard manner. Please be aware that this should in no way affect your already existing Runner installation that was included with CReW Macros, this will be treated as a separate macro by Alteryx Designer.
To see the mentioned difference, you can place an Alteryx Runner macro installed by this app and a CReW Runner macro to a new workflow and examine the XML of the workflow you placed these macro tools into after saving it.
Creation of the ini file was based on the CReW Macros Installation app.
This installation app supports installations for the Admin version of Alteryx Designer only, there are no plans to build another installation app for the Non-Admin version at the moment.
Note 2024-11-13: The installation has been successfully tested to verify that it is working for both Admin and Non-Admin version of Alteryx Designer, you only need to reinstall Runner and specify the corresponding Alteryx bin folder when reinstalling.
Update 2023-11-24: The analytic app is now presented as an Alteryx Package which also contains a placeholder csv file to maintain compatibility with Alteryx Designer 2023.2.1.7 due to an issue which causes the error "An anchor was not closed" to appear and stop the analytic app if there is a Run Command tool in a Control Container which does not use the Read Results [Optional] functionality. A placeholder csv file is read in for all Run Command tools to avoid this error.
Update 2024-11-13: The Runner package is now embedded in the YXZP file in order to avoid a scenario where this installation package could be rendered useless if the official Runner package were to be removed or updated.
