How to combine 2 tables into 1

HI

I have two different data sources ( excel files) that I want to transform into 1. I have taken table 1 , selected the unique fields I want to see , same for for table 2, added an additional column on each. Now I want to see  both tables data in one  where all data are on top of each other in an unique table. Not sure if the append tool would help with that or not so far it is not working for me. An I even using the right tool.
