Please see attached screenshot. I can't view SMTP settings in the email tool, even though I am getting an error asking me to update them. What am I missing?
Follow the below steps
In case it is already unchecked, then your system settings makes DCM as mandatory. Then do the below
Hi Brad,This could be an issue with the email address you are using to send from. A while ago Alteryx changed the tool and it won't auto-detect the SMTP path for security reasons. Try a real email address and see how you get on. It basically doesn't provide a way to authenticate your sender account credentials. It may be possible if you configure an IP-based authentication. Thanks
Thank you for the reply. I only changed the email address for the screehshot, for confidentiality reasons. I was using a valid address when I got the error.
It may be a case of Alteryx having a moment and you need to re-set up the connection. What happens when you click on 'Set up a connection?'
When I click on "set up a connection". It opens up the connection window (see attached). But, for this workflow I'm using an Excel sheet as the data source, saved to my local machine. I don't need to connect to any external data sources for this workflow. I have also tried rebooting Alteryx and closing and re-opening the workflow. I have also deleted and used a new Email tool.
Hi Brad, Have you tried setting up the connection again?
@bradtukey you can see the SMTP settings when you deselect "Use Data Connection Manager":i.e:
Can you open up a new canvas and test this please.
If that works, you may need to consider replacing your existing tool on the workflow with a fresh one and reconfiguring if you can't see the DCM option.
All the best,
BS
Hi. Thank you for the reply. However, even when I open a new canvas and insert a new email tool, I can't see the checkbox for "Use Data Connection Manager". See attached.
Hi @Brad,
Are you trying to use an Excel sheet from within an email as a data source? If that is the case, you can't do that and would need to download the Excel file and connect directly to the Excel file.
ThanksDanny
Hi. I am using an Excel file that is saved to my local machine, not from within an email.
Hi @bradtukey , After doing some more research, I would suggest completely uninstalling Alteryx Designer and re-installing. There have been instances of this issue in the past and this could resolve the issue you have.Let me know if this resolves the issues and please mark as correct on the forum. Thanks
Danny
Hi Danny, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Alteryx. I'm using version 2024.1.1.17. I still have the same issue, where I can't see the SMTP settings in the email tool.
Thank you to all those who have replied and for your suggestions but I am still having the issue, despite trying all of your suggestions. Is there anyone else who can help with this? Without the email tool, the workflow I have is not usable. I'm on a deadline to create this tool and right now I can't move forward. Is there a team or someone who can join a zoom / Teams call with me to help troubleshoot?
Edit: Below is the setting that need to be changed. However, it's interesting why you cannot see the option at all.
In your Email tool, you have SMTP field, which you need to update. As shown in snip below.
If you are not sure about your SMTP and Port, you need to check in your server configuration.
just to give it a try, if your email is brad@abc.com
then your SMTP might be mail.abc.com
and port you can mention as 25.
Guarv, those fields are not visible in the Email tool. I have tried reinstalling Alteryx, using new workflows, using a new email tool instance. Nothing that has been suggested in this thread makes those fields visible, so I can't input anything into them.
Thank you so much. Now I can see the settings!
Glad you finally got to the bottom of it Brad! I've learnt something new too! Thanks Gaurav!
