Is it possible to connect to data that lives in a live data source on tableau server?

Do you mean - is it possible for Alteryx to connect to a live data source that presently has a connection on a Tableau server (not through Tableau - but why not create the connection in Alteryx?) or can Tableau connect to a live data source?
