Server Data Connections or DCM Data Sources

I've been using Alteryx for a couple of years now but only just started using server to create workflows which connect to data sources instead of users uploading data sets. 

In the help here: https://help.alteryx.com/20223/server/data-connections it implies that Data Connections option in the Admin portal is being deprecated and I should be using DCM instead.

Data Connections and DCM Data Sources both appear to give similar features so before I start creating connections and suggesting best practices, I'd like to know if I've misunderstood the help article and what your advice would be at a fairly early stage.

Data Connections are not being deprecated. The message at the beginning of the page is just for the Server-FIPS.

DCM is user based, each user will create their own connections and credentials. Data Connections are admin based, the admin will manage the creation and sharing.
