New Deaf Upskiller

Hey Data Lovers,

I'm a graduating full blown single mother majoring in health informatics with dual minors in clinical applications and community informatics. The graduation is THIS May. I've decided to up skill myself rather than ranting out how no one will hire me due to lack of certifications on my personal/professional portfolio and that's OK. Because I'm here;)

I'm deaf, and I'm more comfortable using sign language, but if I have to talk, I will:) I like to eat with my mouth close and sign openly at the same time. Neat, right?

Thanks for having me, and I hope to see nothing but support and smiles on here. Good luck to you all.

Welcome Ciara, glad to have you here!  Lots of great resources to help you upskill (check out the Academy section).  Pretty cool skill - eating and signing at the same time!  The National Technical Institute of the Deaf is practically around the corner from me; I developed some very basic signing skills while working at a grocery store in high school/college.  Always been on my bucket list to learn more or take a course since we have so many in our community.

Let us know if you have any questions along your Alteryx journey!

Deal!  I will learn how to sign "my name is Mike"  (Magnetar is a level Alteryx gives the "ACEs" of the Community.  You can learn more about the ACE program here: https://community.alteryx.com/t5/ACE-Program/bd-p/ace-program and see all our profiles (I'm down a few scrolls; Mike Barone) - something for you to aspire too!  Been a member of the community since it started, probably 2014-ish?  Been an ACE since 2015, and a user since 2013.  Looking forward to watching your journey.

Cheers!

Hello Kyle!

Thank you for the reference! I'll definitely keep your email in the back of my head. I'm both nervous and thrilled to be here. Please do give me a couple of weeks to get use to this innovative platform, and hopefully I'll bounce right back passing the beginner's section earlier than expected!

Stay warm!

Ciara

Hi!

I did find you. I like how visual and transparent this web-based platform is for not just people with ihearing loss, but also for many other awesome people with diverse backgrounds. I must mention that I finally met another deaf female health informatics specialist randomly on facebook very recently! It was nice not to be singled out because I asked every one I know, and with the deaf community as tight-knit clusters all over the world, and the word gout out fast for them to say that there weren't any others until now! She resides in Virgina and works as a business analyst for a tech firm. That was extra motivation right there!

Unfortunately , I have been struggling for the last two days with installing the Alteryx on my MacBook Air. I'd like to post it on here for the first time before joining the community because it is, although should not be, embarrassing for me.

The Challenge:

1. Yes, I followed with the fact that Alteryx runs on Windows, and that there are two ways to install Alteryx on a Mac: The Boot Camp and VirtualBox and the likes. ( I've had VB in my laptop for 2 years).

2. I followed along with everything the page Chad redirected me to, and downloaded a Windows emulator, Crossover. Worked out fine.

3. I currently reside on university campus, so I clearly use my school's free WiFi instead of my own modem with better protection with SSH and Raspberry Pi. That's when I froze and explored other options.

4. I tried the Boot Camp. Turned out I was out of memory and cleaned up space and Tried again. Somehow, I accidentally deleted the Crossover;s massive fiolder and reinstalled it. VB was accepting Windows as a file. Then Boot Camp paused the set up and said it was compatible with newer version of Windows 10 (I was using Windows 2010 ) only. Then that didn't work. I took two screenshots for a better idea.

Thoughts?

Thank you for your help!

Ciara

5. Took me two days because this laptop had over 100 (more like 30) tabs opened and it took a while.
