Output Tool : Invalid state to read file ERROR

Hi, I'm having errors with the output tool(maybe it was due to the 2020.3 update on September 1st).

Error Name : 'Invalid state to read file'

I've found out that the error appears only when if there is a file that already exists(ex. FS2.xlsx on the capture below).

If I delete the file FS2.xlsx then run the workflow, the output tool works well.

Dear all,

I've just read the new release note for Designer 2020.4 and found that the related issue has been solved.

I didn't have the time to update, so haven't tried it out myself yet.

Hi! I'm facing the same. But wierdly Output to xlsx works fine overwriting existing files in one process but fails in another.

I updated to 2020.3 yesterday too 😞

Could you please explain how does bug fixes are usually released? Will it be fixed automatically or we'll have to download another release and reinstall?

To the current knowledge from the support team, the "Invalid state to read file" happens when:

1. the path of the output file contains a non-English character.

2. the name of the output file contains a non-English character.

I've got an email that The Development team is currently working on these issues.

Hi,
I am facing the same problem here.
In Portuguese we have characters like 'ç' and 'ã' for example. In my output file, when I removed these characters from the file name, the problem stopped happening.
But this is an old process that has always written to a file with these characters.

I experience the same issue since the update.

A workaround for me until it is solved, is to change the output option to: "Overwrite Sheet or Range". For me, this seems to be working.

after upgraded to v2020.3.4.30228, I got same error message for the "Invalid state to read file", this is a critical bug for output ( It seriously affected the work ! ).

When will they fix it as you know ? thanks a lot !

Same problem ...

My flow were working perfectly but since the new update "2020.30" nothing is working no more.

I hope that will be fixed very soon because that is a dealbreaker.

This is only happening to one of my workflows since upgrading, there are no strange characters. Is there any update on this issue?

Just wanted to add a +1 since we are also facing this issue. Very inconvenient when the company's root directory has a big fat "ö" in the path.

The same error. It seems that XLSX writer is broken. As the workaround - I have changed the output type of the file to xls (1997-2003) and it works. May be will be usefull for someone.

I have the same issue after updating to 2020.3 and removing the special character from the path/file name fixed it.

side note - couldn't find this thread by searching "output data error invalid state to read file" in the alteryx community search, had to go to google and search "alteryx output data error invalid state to read file"

When will this be pathed in 2020.3 - in a non-english country this is a major issue.

Temporally, I have to change the non-English file name to be all in English. And it works now. Hope it can be fixed soon. Just curious why it takes so long. It is already year of 1202.

As @JunePark write, the problem is fixed at version 2020.4. It will not be fixed at old version.

Just updated to the 2020.3 (Corporate policy in my company didn´t released the 2020.4 yet) and I'm having the same issue.

Changed the excel output component to the "excel legacy -> delete data and append" and it's working, however costs a lot of performance, same workflow is taking a lot time more to finish the proccess.

Not the best option, but since I cannot just update to the 2020.4 so far, it will work.
