…Amok, amok, amok amok… OK that's enough. For now. Our release this month isn't the biggest we've put together, but we've got some amazing announcements to make that I think will be exciting for EVERYONE in the community. Plus some great events, some exciting new progress on big projects, and we can't forget to recognize all of our Community Ghostbusters from the past week. Also, even though it's technically November, this is the October release blog, so be prepared for some witchery - after all, it's just a little Hocus Pocus!

Need to Know

This sprint was expectedly a light one as our development team has been nose to the keyboard on our Gallery development and release in December. We’re excited for everyone to see what we’re doing, and wanted to provide a sneak peek of what the new Gallery landing page will look like, a fair warning though, these are early-stage mockups, and some things are subject to change and might not match up exactly. But this should give a fair view into what we’re working towards!

We also have several SSO updates coming down the pipeline to share, including an update to the password system. User will have visibility into the password requirements before entering one with a new hover option. This will be coming out in the near future, and we look forward to hearing your feedback on how we can further improve.

To stay on the topic of our Single Sign-On system, users logging in and having to authenticate might have hit an error message saying that the verification code couldn’t be sent. This is an issue with our vendor we’re currently working to resolve. We appreciate your patience as we fix this issue up and we’ll do our best to communicate once it’s fully resolved.

Community News

Before we get into some big news, I want to give a special shout out to many of our community members that helped us with a fun Halloween activity over the past week or so. There were some pesky ghosts hanging around the community wreaking havoc, and our intrepid members went on a dangerous hunt to find some of these little guys. Not only did they get some nifty costumes, but they also are getting a shout out here, so give all of these folks a round of applause! But let's save the major kudos to our own @KylieF. Kylie came up with this supernatural scavenger hunt, designed all of the avatar costumes, and helped ensure that everything went off without a hitch on this - so for the fun experience, let's give her some love too! 20 points to whichever Hogwarts house she identifies with!

The next big thing to announce here in the blog has been months in the making. We've got two new members of the community team! Now, you may not know this, but hiring someone for a community management role is a process - there's a lot of different skill sets that we have to pull from, while also being personable, and finding the right fit isn't always an easy task. Luckily for our team, we snagged some incredible people.

@JessL joins the team as our new Community Manager following a role as a consultant for a community platform provider. She started her own community before even entering the industry to connect with like-minded women to ask career-related questions without judgement, look for new jobs, recruit cool new team members and connect with each other. Jessica lives in Washington, DC - she's a huge fan of the Washington Capitals, live music and shows, brunch, and Taylor Swift (at her previous company she ran a two part lunch and learn on Taylor's career, so take note when she speaks on the subject)

@NitashaP has been at Alteryx for roughly two years, but joined the community team just this week from the sales organization as our new Associate Community Manager. Nitasha loves to use her skills building and maintaining relationships to translate to a community role. She loves traveling and exploring new places, baking, and hanging out with her family and friends. Nitasha likes to stay active, was a competitive cheerleader growing up and is an avid ski-bum when she can be. She loves style and beauty, and went to school for fashion before pivoting into the tech industry.

Everyone in the community will get many opportunities to interact with our new community teammates as they get into the swing of things (they both just started in the past week) but in the meantime, let's make sure that they get a huge welcome from all of us - they're going to be fantastic additions to the community!

Read and Listen

If you didn’t feel moved and motivated by our blogs in October, it’s time to catch up! We talked about all kinds of movement, with two posts about McLaren and Formula 1, the move of Gallery to Community, and an exciting move by Alteryx to acquire Hyper Anna. Plus, we covered the move of finance to the cloud, offered a tutorial on moving data with the Gallery API, and published a guide to getting moving fast with machine learning. And if you’re looking for your next career move, we have some tips for that, too!

The Data Science Mixer podcast highlighted how data science helps keep the supply chain moving, and the Alter Everything podcast featured a story about Alteryx interns moving forward with their career paths. Finally, October wouldn’t be complete without a spooky season episode, where we learned all about how fear can be quantified.

Final Thoughts

OK, now that we've blown out the black flame candle, turned Bette Midler into a statue in a graveyard, and saved all the children of Salem, it's time to call it a wrap on our October Highlights and Release Blog! Thank you everyone for joining in the amazing fun we had with our ghost hunt, for welcoming our new community teammates, and for being just a generally amazing membership group to work with!
