It would be easy if you had the macro attached to analyze the error, but if you are trying to select columns based on inputs ( I assume columns may vary and so the macro ) you can try with the below configuration as reference
is there a specific reason to select columns based on executing your expression by updating the XML? because if that's really required we can try to recreate that part with some other method.
