I realised that I need to practice regex more. I spent way to long searching for the issue in the workflow not knowing it was my regex tool all along.

My solution below - apparently I ended up with 1 record more than the solution output, and I sorted the output based on published year and issue number for each character as that just seemed right rather than sorted on comic title alphabetical order:
