If you’ve already upgraded to Alteryx Strategic Analytics 8.5 or downloaded our new Project Edition than you’ve already seen how we’ve made it even easier to build data analytic workflows using the Designer Desktop.
Usually all the good stuff from our developers is on the inside. This time it’s right upfront starting with a simplified layout. The tool selection pane has been moved to the top of the screen, freeing up more space. As one of our customers told us at Inspire13, one of the reasons he loves using Alteryx is that it provides a blank canvas where you can organize and record your thoughts to solve challenging business problems.
The workflows can be built vertically or horizontally, but the default is now left-to-right for a couple of reasons. Most screen and monitors these days have much more space across than they do top-to-bottom so you can see more of your flow at any single time. The other big reason is that many users use the Alteryx Designer Desktop across multiple monitors. So if you’re one of those users, the new Designer better fits the way *you* work.
Our icons also got a thorough makeover – though if you look carefully you can see they often kept the overall concept from the original. The icons have been dramatically simplified and are now grouped visually. Each category of icons has its own distinct shape and color – making it easier to understand workflows and pick the right tool every time.
And picking the right tool got even easier. The icons been grouped under an expanded list of categories. The new search feature also enables you to type in keywords and the Alteryx Designer Desktop will show you all the tools that may apply, not just those with a particular term in the name. Type in the term ‘input’ and you’ll see that the Download, Amazon S3 Download, and Directory tools show up. This will enable you to better explore and use the full functionality of the 150+ tools in Alteryx. If you hover above the tools, you’ll notice that we provide you with more information right there, so you don’t have to go the Help documentation to see if it may work for you. Find which new tools work best for you, and then click on the little star to the upper right to add it to your Favorites category.
