How to create a new field with repeating data based on another field

How would one go about doing this? I have a dataset where I rank the dates and I want a new column called First to always be the date that corresponds with the rank = 1 like the table below?

DATE	RANK	FIRST
10/31/1988	1	10/31/1988
10/31/1988	1	10/31/1988
10/31/1988	1	10/31/1988
11/30/1988	2	10/31/1988
