Nice Challenge! But I think the provided solution is not dynamic enough! For my solution, I use Cross Tab to make the Position Number rows into columns and connect it to the Drop Down.

I was struggling with how to make the position list dynamic! But after some searching I learned that the list has to be established prior to running the app! So my solution file includes a toggled off comment box to populate a .yxdb to feed the drop down box. In a true business application I would use chained apps to refresh the data.
