I noticed a pattern in the data that strings that started with "1" were for the year 2000 onward. RegEx made it so that I had the first digit parsed out and the remaining six digits in another field. Then, if the result from my first parsed group was "1," I added "20" to the front of the second parsed group (and "19" otherwise). Then used the DateTime tool to convert the string to a DateTime field and Select tool to truncate it to a Date field. Voila.
