I grasped the requirements of the challenge, but it was quite a complicated matter to wrangle the data in just the right way to achieve the desired outcome.  I ended up leveraging the approach provided in the solution.  Thank you, @AYXAcademy, for showing just the right set of logical steps to drive the solution.
