My number for question 2 was 32 (I had 2 differences in methodology).

1) I did not filter to sports section for that number which added 4 results.

2) I filtered to football directly in quotes which is how I read the question.  While the solution looked for football within 2 quote signs.  In other words the solution includes 'football (college)' while mine only includes 'football'.  This resulted in 7 less for mine.  Netting out to mine having 3 less than the solution.
