At first I thought there was going to be a way to cut one of the polygons from the other in order to make an inverse and only then create the 7-pointed star ...

 

but then after some deliberation I came across this solution instead.

 

Good revision of the spatial tools!

rather than cut one polygon from another, this one I just added them together.

I'm noticing a few different ways to get to the solution, but I don't think these exactly match the posted solution.  I was using the Expect Equal macro and it wasn't coming up as the same.  Looking at the solution the buffer tool was used, and I think that causes the shape to be slightly different than the solutions everyone else is posting (including mine).  Ultimately it looks the same, but if precision matters not sure if the solution provided gives that?
