Did you know that Nevada was the fastest growing state between 2000 and 2010, growing by 35%? Texas experienced the largest population increase, up by 4.3 million people! It's a Census year and everyone is waiting with anticipation for the 2010 Census data. We're excited too, not only as a data provider but also we were chosen by the U.S. Census Bureau as the premier technology partner to deliver the U.S. Census 2010 DVD product!

Alteryx will be releasing the 2010 Census data in three stages –

  1. 2010 Census Redistricting Data (P.L. 94-171)
  2. Summary File 1 (SF1)
  3. Summary File 2 (SF2)

The P.L. 94-171 is now available through FreeDemographics, DemographicsNow and as a free Alteryx install bundled with an Alteryx 2010 Census wizard.

With the P.L. 94-171 install, you're able to run population and housing unit counts down to the block level. We are planning a September release for the SF1 and this release includes variables specific to race and ethnicity as well as families, household and housing units. Key highlights of the SF1 include the Census adding new variables especially ones reflecting the changing dynamics of the American household -

  • grandchildren living with grandparent householder
  • relationship to the householder, from children (biological, adopted, step) to in-law (parent, son, daughter)
  • group quarters populate by sex by age

Like the P.L. 94-171, we will be releasing the SF1 through FreeDemographics, DemographicsNow and an Alteryx install. Standard Census geographies will be included in this install, block group, census tracts, counties and states as well as Congressional Districts and Places and you will be able to theme on these geographies. Look for an email from us shortly letting you know when the data will be available. The SF2 is scheduled to be released in Spring 2012 and as we have more news, we'll let you know via the Alteryx Engine Works blog.
