Hi, Dallas Alteryx User Group Members! Are you ready for the Alteryx Grand Prix at Inspire 2017 in Las Vegas?!
As mentioned in our recent user group meeting, the Alteryx Grand Prix format has changed, and is focused on creating teams from user groups! For those of you who have not seen the Alteryx Grand Prix competition before, the event is a data analytics "racing" competition, where contestants (drivers) use Alteryx Designer, wit and experience to solve a series of data analytics challenges. In past years, the winner was the contestant who solved the challenges faster than their competitors in front of a crowd at Inspire!
This year, with the outstanding growth of the user groups (65 - or more by now - around the World), the format has changed:
- Teams will be formed from the user groups
- 3 drivers to a racing team
- Each driver will specialize in one topic: Favorites Categories, Spatial, Predictive
The racing team must be comprised of:
- Members who represent the diversity of the user group
- At least 2 different companies represented
- No more than 1 Alteryx Partner
- At least 1 team member must be attending Inspire 2017 in Las Vegas (in order to present the final project)
- No Alteryx ACEs

Since we have such a large user group, we may have multiple users sign up within each specialty category (Favorites, Spatial, Predictive). If this occurs, we will have a weekly Alteryx workflow challenge for those users: each user must complete an Alteryx workflow challenge in their category within a specified time frame, and submit the results for judging. The Dallas Alteryx User Group Leadership Team will provide the Alteryx workflow test to those users, and set up the timed challenge.
The deadline to submit our Dallas Dream Team is April 1st. These 3 drivers from our user group will then compete in the Qualifying Round in April.
The Qualifying Round will be between various user group Grand Prix teams, with the following format:
- Occurs in April
- Duration of 30 minutes
- Each teammate (driver) will complete workflows via WebEx in their chosen specialty category (Favorites, Spatial, Predictive)
- The Top 3 scoring teams will advance to the Finals in Las Vegas!
The Final Round, hosted at Inspire, consists of the following:
- Each User Group Grand Prix Team completes an assigned project in advance of the Inspire conference
- The team posts their project details in a blog within the Alteryx Community
- The blog is due May 29th
- Each team then presents their project onstage at Inspire during the Grand Prix competition on June 5th
- The User Community and the Grand Prix attendees will then vote to decide the winning team!
- Winners receive bragging rights and a special prize to bring home to their user group!
To summarize the dates involved:
- User Group submits 3 members for their User Group Grand Prix Dream Team by April 1st
- Qualifying Round occurs in April
- Project blog due May 29th
- Presentation of project at Inspire on June 5th
- Alteryx Inspire is June 5 - 7, 2017
We are looking forward to having you sign up! Our user group has so much talent and experience - one of our members, Matthew Agee, won 2nd in the Alteryx Grand Prix last year (that means 2nd best in the whole World)! Together, our user group members can make an amazing DALLAS DREAM TEAM!
