When people speak of the Volume, Velocity and Variety of Big Data, wireless service providers can certainly relate to that. These service providers rely on massive volumes of data from a multitude of different sources to run every aspect of their business.

For example, there over 326 million wireless subscribers in the U.S., who collectively send 2.19 trillion text messages and spend 2.30 trillion minutes speaking on their phones every year (SOURCE: CTIA). Their carriers collect call detail records (CDR) about every aspect of these calls, including who made the call, who they called, which towers they came in contact with (there are 301,779 of those too), what signal strength they received, why their call terminated, etc.

As this data from CTIA’s “U.S. Wireless Quick Facts” page clearly shows, every metric used to measure wireless usage (and thus the volume of data collected) has grown steadily over the past 15 years, and particularly in the past 5 years. The growth rates are staggering, and service providers have responded to this challenge with not only great coverage (for the most part), but also new technologies such as 4G/LTE that give mobile users access to data rates that are comparable to the Wi-Fi network they have at home.

The wireless industry will be celebrating their success and showing off the latest technology next week at CTIA 2013, May 21-23 at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas. This show is North America’s best opportunity to experience the entire mobile ecosystem under one roof, and there won’t be another CTIA convention of this magnitude for another 16 months (until September 2014).

Alteryx will be in booth #3818 to show attendees why Alteryx Strategic Analytics: Communications Edition makes it easy for wireless service providers to leverage their growing volume of business and technical data to gain a competitive edge, and support their most strategic network and customer decisions – faster and with more confidence than ever before.

If you’ll be in Las Vegas for CTIA next week, reserve a meeting with us and we’ll show you how our customers at nine of the ten largest wireless operators in the U.S. use analytics with their network and customer data to:

  • Develop market entry strategies and capital budgets based on revenue potential
  • Perform customer analytics to reduce churn and upsell new services
  • Identify negative trends in cell site and handset performance before they become bigger problems, impacting reliability and customer satisfaction

Then, we can discuss YOUR biggest challenges and data assets, and show you how our Communications industry-optimized analytics platform can make your job easier and more productive, plus give you the insight you need to improve your company’s revenue, network performance and customer satisfaction.
