Hope you enjoyed my last blog, Family Dollar: Using Spatial Analytics Beyond Retail Network Planning.

 

This week, let’s talk about Rent-A-Center, America’s largest rent-to-own company with over 4,000 store locations, as another example of a retailer making innovative uses of analytics to drive retail decisions.

 

Rent-A-Center uses Alteryx for market opportunity analysis, site selection and customer segmentation and profiling. The company initially started using Alteryx just for data blending and data management purposes and did all heavy Geographic Information Systems (GIS) lifting in other GIS tools. Once Deanna Sanchez, Manager of Market Planning and GIS for Rent-A-Center, realized how intuitive, easy-to-use and flexible the Alteryx tool was, she transferred all of GIS mapping, customer analyses and drive time generation processes into Alteryx as well. Now, Deanna not only uses Alteryx for all but 10% of her GIS work, she also shares customers’ demographic information that she collects with Alteryx with other departments in the organization, through a central data warehouse.

 

The result is that the customer profile data in the data warehouse has become instrumental in Rent-A-Center’s decision-making processes across the company, from HR to marketing and merchandising, and even to international business.

 

Deanna cites performance, speed to results and accuracy as three primary reasons for using Alteryx. She says where with other (analytics) systems you have to leave processes running over the weekend, with Alteryx you can get the (job) done in half an hour.”
