Hello Gurus,

we have a single alteryx server install in production with 4 core licenses and recently we have purchased additional 2 seats which means additional 4 cores. what steps do i need to follow to add these additional 4 cores to the existing alteryx server as i am planning to increase the worker threads from 2 to 4. how do i validate that my server is configured to use 8 cores.

question 2. we have licenses for sandbox install. i see 2 license key with below details. can anybody elaborate what it means.

Hello :)

Question 1

Threads is one parameter you configure in the Server setup, different then amount of cores available for computing (1 core can expand on several threads), you can't configure Cores available for the Alteryx server, as the product will just use every core available

You seem to have 8 cores licensed, so your server can't have more then 8 cores, and then you just need to install the key over the Designer.

Question 2

Means you can install a SandBox (4 cores) + 4 cores (2 x 2 additional capacity), so possible scenarios are:

1 server with 8 cores

2 servers with 4 cores

3 servers (1 Gallery with 4 cores + 2 servers with 2 cores each)

I hope it helped

Thank you very much for your prompt response. if i understand it right

1. i had looked at the current server configuration in production and it is 8 VCPUs (amazon 4 core machine). i have to first add additional 4 cores for the additional 2 seats we purchased and then open the designer on the server and apply the new license key for additional 4 cores.

2. we have one license with 4 cores that we purchased last year and now additional 2 seats with 4 more cores. so that total of 8 cores should be available and utilised by altryx server once we add the new license through designer. is there a way to check if the server is utilising all those 8 cores

your help is greatly appreciated guru.

  1. I don't know how Amazon provides cores, what matters is what you see in Windows System

  2. The server will always utilize all the available cores, there's no way to do granular selection, that is why the user needs to ensure there's not more cores in the machine, then the amount of cores licensed.

Hello Guru,

I had increased the number of cores to 8 on the server to accommodate the new 2 seats.  my confusion is around the licenses. the server is already using the 4 core licenses from the initial install. we have purchased additional 2 seats

Product Name: Alteryx Server Additional Capacity with 2 seats and it has a license key.

how do i apply this license key to the server.

You have to install them from the Designer (You get Designer installed in the Server installation)
