Alteryx Server ( Worker node setup)

Hi All,

I am new to using the Alteryx server and have some questions regarding the process of setting up Alteryx worker nodes.

As far as I understand, it is possible to add additional worker nodes to the Alteryx server.

  1. I am aware that Windows Server is the operating system required for Alteryx server installation, but what operating system is needed for the worker nodes?

  2. Could you please explain how the controller works in this setup? As I understand it, we add additional nodes to distribute workloads among different nodes. To do this, we install the Alteryx server and obtain a token number and hostname, which we then add to the worker node by configuring the Alteryx server settings to custom > worker. In this case, does the Alteryx server itself acts as a server and controller? If not, please correct me.

  3. My understanding is that the Alteryx scheduler runs with the automation license, but can we also obtain a token number from the scheduler and add it to an additional server?

Thanks for your responce in advance.

Regards,

Venkat

Hi @venkat24 ,

As the server configuration is different in each user, I would recommend you ask the vender support.

But here is my personal view.

1. System requriements

It should be common to all machines: https://help.alteryx.com/20223/server/system-requirements

2. Multiple Machine Configuration

Check this page: https://help.alteryx.com/20223/server/configure-controller-and-workers#multiple-machine-configuratio...

You can enable Controller to only one machine, while you can enable Worker to multiple machines.

You can enable Controller AND Workder on the same machine, with several Worker-only machines.

In any case, we call all machines as "Alteryx Server".

3. Scheduler

Do you mean Designer plus Desktop Automation by "the automation license"?

If so, you should not use it once you decide to use Alteryx Server.

This page: https://help.alteryx.com/20223/designer/schedule-workflows#schedule-to-my-computer says:

"The option to schedule to My Computer is the only option available to users of Designer plus Desktop Automation (Scheduler).

This option is not recommended if you use Alteryx Server."

HEy @venkat24 ,

The scheduler license is similar to the Alteryx designer license. It is a per-user and per-machine license.

You don`t have to install or configure anything, the scheduler will be enabled after you add the license to your designer.
