Using variables in ToolNameConfig.xml

Is there an example of how to use the variables Engine.EngineDirectory, Engine.PluginDirectory, or Engine.JavaScriptPluginDirectory in a tool's config file? Comments claim that

 

Except for help, all paths are relative to this config file. The variables [Engine.EngineDirectory], [Engine.PluginDirectory] and [Engine.JavaScriptPluginDirectory] can also be used.

 

but I'm not sure how to use them, and I can't find any examples that do.

Alteryx has confirmed that these variables are not supported in Config.xml
