Startup Error: There was an error loading a macro

When starting Alteryx Designer, I see this error window pop up:

ErrorLoadingAMacro.jpg

I need to close the window to continue the startup.

I have tried the steps here https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Designer-Discussions/Error-while-loading-Object-reference-n... and https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Designer-Knowledge-Base/Error-while-loading-Object-referenc... but the error still occurs.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this error?   Trying to avoid a re-install.

The cause of this error was due to a yxmc file of size 0.

The macro was located in the folder and subfolder specified in the Options > User Settings > Edit User Settings > Macros tab search path.

Thank you to Alteryx Customer Support ... great job troubleshooting!

Had a similar issue. By removing/adding back again the macro's I was able to find out which ones had an issue. In my case it was caused by macros which actually were standard workflows (so no Interface actions in the flow). After saving them as a yxmd instead of yxmc, the error was gone.
