Selection Problem

I can't tick the selection box individually but I can select or unselect them all. Have no idea what is happening

The join tool doesn't work either. I can't tick the individual box of "append fields". hhhhhh

GPT says it might be because of the problem with 'unknown' col, and it tells me to Ensure that the Unknown Field Handling option is set to Include or Drop only for unknown fields, rather than applying changes to all fields. But I can' find this setting.

Really appreciate your help! Maybe this is because of some environmental problem with my computer. I reached my prof and he was not able to handle it. And finally, he gave me the permission to use the virtual machine of my university.
