Disable 'Smart' Highlighting

frakt

When highlighting expressions in a formula, Alteryx thinks it knows better than I what I would like to highlight and ends up highlighting significantly more than I want. Is there a way to disable this feature so that it only highlights where my cursor is?

This seems trivial but is extemely irritating.

Thanks.

Or If you are talking about Annotation then you can disable it(change it to Never) or rename it

To recreate:

  • drop a formula tool on a blank canvas
  • in the config panel call the output field "test"
  • type "selection testing example" in the expression area
  • with your mouse, starting between the "s" and "t" in "testing", try to select "ting exam" ...

It cannot be done: it will automatically select all of "testing" when you get to the space between the two words.

The selection can be done using the keyboard... but not only by mouse.

Aside: I starred the OP as I'm not a fan of Auto-Selecting whole words either... my preference is:

  • starting with a single-click-and-hold: select character by character
  • starting with a double-click-and-hold: select whole words
