Hi all. We are currently setting up our Connect data catalog, and I am curious how other users flag PII (personally identifiable information) in their metadata. We had considered using tags, but I am a bit concerned whether other tags will get in the way of being clear about what data is and isn't PII. Interested in how others handle this, if at all??
Thanks
Jo
Hi James
We were wanting to use the flagging of PII information to feed back into the database to indicate security. You can have zero one or many tags which users can create - we don't want to stop them creating tags, but we do want to limit control of setting and unsetting of PII flags. The new custom fields are much closer to our needs, and now tags can be used in whatever fashion the users desire 🙂
Got it. With the context that you're looking to have Connect feed another system with this information, your concern makes perfect sense. Thanks for clarifying.
Hi guys,
the custom fields feature is definitely the way to support such use cases.
Please be aware that there have been several fixes around custom fields in 19.4, so we strongly recommend to upgrade to this version if you're considering using the custom fields.
