State of RetailRetailers capture all types of data – customer data, transactional data, and operational data -- and enrich it with demographic, psychographic, geo-spatial and third-party research, but do they actually use this data to drive decisions, support strategies and identify opportunities?

RSR Research, in a recent study sponsored by Alteryx, surveyed 100+ retailers from different segments of the industry to determine the current state of data and analytics usage across departments and where the best opportunities were to engage in analytics. Some of the findings were eye-opening – such as, even today only 23% of marketing and 26% of merchandising decisions are primarily data based. This, despite the fact, that those surveyed recognized marketing and merchandising to be the top departments expected to gain the most from the use of data and analytics.
