A Response and Recovery Ready Public Sector

The outbreak of COVID-19 has challenged and stretched many public sector organizations to go above and beyond in order to meet the health and wellbeing needs of their employees, stakeholders, constituents, and communities.  To these dedicated public servants, I want to say thank you for your continued efforts to meet this challenge head-on.

Amid the immediate response and as plans for recovery are started the one factor that seems to be common is that the fight against COVID-19 is requiring a significant amount of data and more specifically the ability to harness and turn this data into insight. The speed and scale by which the situation changes by the minute make the need to collect, prep, join, analyze and collaborate with insights a critical capability.

The aftermath of disrupted supply chains, elevated demands for critical supplies and services, disrupted financial systems and other challenges will make recovery hard but not impossible. However, as recovery actions get underway public sector organizations are going to need to evaluate their analytic capabilities and make changes to incorporate new and more varied sources of data to create more accurate forecasts.

Additionally, given the expected volume of requests for support whether it be unemployment claims,  small business recovery support or community-based disaster relief funding, the agencies that handle these recovery mechanisms are going to need a high degree of analytics automation to process, analyze and respond in a timely manner.

These are some of my thoughts on the role analytics is playing and will play for the Public Sector in the immediate response to COVID-19 and the forthcoming recovery period.
