Tableau's much-anticipated Hyper technology is now available with their latest release. Hyper is designed to handle large datasets, resulting in faster extract creation and better query performance. As such, it should come as no surprise that the integration of Hyper into Alteryx has also been much-anticipated by our joint customers!
We've received lots of questions and requests around the Alteryx-Hyper integration, so we put together the FAQ below to address them.
How will the new Hyper functionality be integrated into Alteryx?
You will see the integration in two places within Alteryx:
- The Output Tool. Currently, we offer the ability to create a Tableau Data Extract (.tde) directly from the Output Tool. For Hyper, we will be adding another option to the tool that that will allow Alteryx users to create a Hyper Extract (.hyper) directly from the Output Tool. The Hyper extracts can then be read into any Tableau 10.5+ instance.
- The Publish to Tableau Server Tool. This tool will be updated to include an option that allows users to specify whether they'd prefer to publish a .tde file or a .hyper file.
Will any Tableau Data Extract (.tde) functionality be deprecated?
No. We understand that many of our users will not switch over to Hyper immediately, so we will be providing both .tde and .hyper as options. Also, the added functionality is fully backwards compatible and will not break or effect any previous workflows built with either the Output Tool or the Publish to Tableau Server Tool.
Will Alteryx be including Hyper read functionality?
No. As is the case with Tableau Data Extracts, Tableau has locked down the ability for third parties to read Hyper Extracts and we are limited by what is built into the Tableau API. If you'd like to see this functionality being offered, we suggest reaching out to Tableau with feedback.
When will the Hyper integration be released in Alteryx?
We are currently planning to release the stated Hyper integrations with our 18.1 release this quarter.
