Password encrypted input file

Hi there!

I have a password encrypted Excel file that I would like to use as an input to my Alteryx workflow. Read that this can be done by using the R tool. However, I cannot seem to download the R tool.

Does anyone have any alternative solution or is able to direct me to the right place to download this?

Thank you!

Hi @xiaohui1 — R application comes with Alteryx at the time of installation when you have Alteryx Predictive Tools package. However, you may download it through Download and Use Predictive Tools and this webpage has a short tutorial as well.

Also, check this link: https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Designer-Discussions/how-to-install-R-tool/m-p/433783/highl...

Hey Xiaohui,

There is macro created by Ben Moss from Information Lab that allows you to use a password protected Excel as input data.

You can download his macro here: https://gallery.alteryx.com/#!app/Input-Password-Protected-XLSX/5a9d23a7826fd31b1c2826ea

It's using windows command script instead of R.

More notes prior connecting can be found on the gallery page as well.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Seinchyi

Hi Seinchyi,

Thanks for sharing this. This actually works for fixed file and sheet names. I'm not sure if I am missing something in the code, but will it be possible to access the password encrypted file with file name that is changing every month or by using wildcards?
