Text input dates into a Date Range

I am using the Text Input tool to set the start and end date parameters for a report. In the PDF output I want to be able to show the start and end dates as a range in the format MM/DD/YYYY - MM/DD/YYYY.

The other problem is that I need to add 1 day to the start date and subtract 1 day from the end date to get the actual date range.

What is the best way to accomplish this.
