Table Tool

Hi all,

Quick question on something annoying I can not figure out.  I am creating a table with 4 columns of data and 3 of the columns are single data points while the 4th is a list of bulleted items.  So its not like I can just break bullets into separate rows as 3-4 bullets pertain to one row of data.  The bullets are nicely curated and stacked one on top of the other with Summarize Tool concatenation with "\n".   When the data flows through the table tool however it is no longer a stacked list of bullet points, it becomes a continuous string of wrapped text and makes it very hard to read.

How do I control that so it maintains its structural integrity for ease of reading on output?

I can't share workflow due to sensitivity of information, but basically it goes in like:

  • Item 1
  • Item 2
  • Item 3

and comes out like

• Item 1  • Item 2  • Item 3

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is possible however you will need to use other reporting tools to get it. In  a Text Reporting tool you can build it.

In the above picture I was using 1 and 2 to create text

So I vaguely remember there's some way to edit the underlying css to get htis to work - and I also remember getting editing of the report objects in formula tool to work - but neighter is working for me this morning - so instead I'll provide the workaround.

1) take your column you need to nest. get your grouping data. feed this into a table tool with only your grouping column (as key column) and your narrow/long data. do not include your grouping column in your table - ie it is only a key column..

2) join this to your original datastream on your grouping column.

3) feed into a second table tool. you now have a nested table tool. which should show 1 entry for each grouped field, and multiple entries in a single row for your details.

note - if you want to format it to look nicer (ie include bullets et all) - I'd recommend looking at the html option in row/column rules.

I also do think there is a way to edit the underlying html but I use these tools incredibly sparingly so my memory is shot.

@apathetichell and @OTrieger  -- thanks for the feedback.  My actual data was a bit muddy than my original post, so I ended up using both suggestions for inspiration and after a LOT of trial and error with the formatting I think I got it.  Just hope the person I built it for approves of the look.  Thanks for the help.  😀
