String to number

Emanuelis

Hi all,

I have a data set which has some numbers and headers which have words.

Alteryx reads this data in as string, which mean that for some number which have many decimal places it read them as 7.00000000E-2.

Because of these E-2, or E-3 ... I cannot format those into numbers, as alteryx gives me blank fields for those.

One way would be to apply a formula to the string and remove the E-2 manually, but I just wondered if anyone knows any simpler ways?

Hi @Emanuelis,

You should be able to use the select tool and change your field with the number in scientific notation to a double and Alteyrx will recognise the notation.

So 7.00000000E-2 becomes 0.07 as shown in the attached workflow.

If you have text and numbers in the same field then the attached solution should work for you too.
