Put calendar inputs side-by-side in Interface Designer

I've created an App with two calendar inputs (query begin date and query end date) to form a range.  I'm trying to use Interface Designer to put them side-by-side, but not having much luck.  My searches have been fruitless in finding a solution.  Does anyone know, is this possible, or am I going on a wild goose chase?

Currently not possible to set interface elements side-by-side in the Interface Designer, we can only arrange them vertically. It may be possible with the SDK and an HTML interface, but I do not know.

Is this functionality available now? This would make the input screen so much better.

Also, the listbox shows a lot of white space below the values I have. Can this extra space be removed?
